UV 2.11 Just Changed Sides

Post by LowCommand »

Running 2.11 UV changed me from US to Jap. What the *BLEEP* over? Yes I am downloading 2.2 to see if the solves the problem. I do have a resonable save before and after the problem.

Zoinks! Me too!

I just experienced the same thing when playing a new PBEM game, although I'm at v2.20.

Last night, I created a brand new scenario 17 PBEM game, saved it, sent the file to Ron Saueracker. Got his turn back in the email this morning, loaded it up, and suddenly I was the Allied player!

I thought for a moment that he screwed up and just sent me the same file I had sent him, but then I realized that he had already created a bunch of TF's.

Any clue on how to resolve this? Do we have to start all over?

It's happening to me in my other game I've been trying to start with Bosun. I receive his opening turn as IJN, I do all I'm supposed to and get to password prompt, and type in new password. I don't think the password is being accepted. I'm running 2.20 as well. Weird.

Am I missing something here? What is really yanking my shorts is that I've had little luck with PBEM when I attempted it with Crocky, Kid, and Bosun a while back as well. Something horribly wrong on my end?:(

So, nobody from Matrix has any thoughts about what could be the problem?

This is preventing me from schooling Ron in the finer arts of warfare! ;)

It's not a common issue, but rather seems specific to something going on with Ron's setup or password choice. I would recommend that Ron reinstall and make sure he chooses a different password next time. I understand from the private forums that he may have left the password blank, which could cause issues.

Ron,

I'm not sure then. Clearly, PBEM and passwords are working fine for everyone else so either there's still some system/installation issue or perhaps something about the way you're typing in the password. Can you describe what "didn't take" means in terms of what you saw on the screen?

Hi, Erik. When the password window pops up prior to starting game, I type the password and have hit both return and "OK" button. The window immediately closes doing either. When I received a follow up turn from Bosun, my password would dump me back to main UV screen, but not entering one let me in. My password did not "take" so to speak.

I'm going to try a complete reinstall of UV. Maybe that will do the trick.

Ron, the only other thing I can think of is that when you originally typed your password in, the cursor wasn't active in the field where the password goes. Did you actually see the password being typed out in that field?

Ron,

Once you've reinstalled and patched up (I assume 1.0 -> 2.0 -> 2.1 -> 2.11 -> 2.2), please run a test PBEM against yourself. Play both sides and just end a few turns to make sure you can save and load properly with passwords. Thanks in advance.

If I get back from work early enough I'll reinstall the whole shebang and test vs the "great me".;)

I MIGHT? HAVE THE ANSWER TO THIS

Post by Veldor »

This EXACT thing happened to me in my first PBEM game... I played around with it and found the cause... for me at least. You see when it was my first game I was a little "ignorant" of how to play PBEM... So the jap player sent me his first turn, I loaded it up, put in my password, made my moves and saved... That was the problem.. What I didn't mention and what I think might be of importance here.. is that I DIDN'T click to end my turn.. I just saved like I would an AI game... When the Jap player got it and entered his password if he would have looked closely it was actually asking for player 2's password... and he was simply setting it for the first time... but then seeing the moves Id made as it was still player 2's turn. Seems like the player 2 password doesnt go into effect until after you end the first player 2 turn... I tried this on turns after the first and everything worked as it should.. So if you didn't click the red arrow to end your turn (then making you save) that might be the problem.. Hope this made sense...
