My ships in construction suddenly apeare in the midst of battle?

I started a new game wirh small map and with many oponents. Ending up with one race in my home system. Put my start forces toghether in a fleet and attacked directly. Building 6 new ships and designated them in the shiplist to be attached to first fleet. My destroyers (2 of them) with 26 parts left to be built was suddenly in harms way outside enemy planet where 1st fleet was. No fuel no defences but still a target. Lost them all and the money buying them aswell.

Is this WAD? (WAD=Working as designed)

In same I got very confused when my fleet going and attack peacemeal on by one. Even when I tried to keep my fleet home until all ships was repaired. Now they attack one by one and I lost the first war even thou I found an abondand Capital ship.
How to do?
I really like the automation for patrol and base defence but how to command my own fleet?

Some more cases of this are supposed to have been fixed in the very latest public beta (1.7.0.4). Ships under construction are not supposed to leave the construction yard.
