Voronezh Scenario AAR

Post by spelk »

Still enchanted by the ability to replay the battle in Unity of Command, I decide to try a slightly meatier scenario and put the Video AAR's up on Youtube.

I have to admit, I just like the way the game plays. It's enjoyable to play, the cut and thrust of manoeuvre warfare, its nice to look at, and it plays out quite swiftly. Plus its very accessible to newcomers to wargaming, yet there is a level of depth there for the Grogs, I think.

Anyway, its a six turner, I'll update here when I post up the new turns.

This is great! Thanks, it shows how the game works very well.

One question - a minute ago I read that units couldn't pass through other units, but it sure looked to me like yours did! What's up with that??

Keep it up!

I'm not sure to be honest. Does it mean the inability to move beyond enemy units because of them exerting a zone of control?

If you mean moving through your own units, perhaps its just that the video replay doesn't highlight the path the unit takes and its actually moving around but seems like its moving through. I'm not sure of the specific rules regarding 'moving through' - sorry.

Friendly units can "move through" eachother, which isn't weird considering the scale.

Thanks ComradeP, I thought when I read a post that they couldn't move through each other that was strange. At this scale they should. Maybe I read it wrong and it was about stacking, which you can't do here.

I'm loving this AAr, i's great, very exciting and can't wait for that next turn! A very good advertisement for this game! Makes me want to buy it bad!

Good read; very nice compact game as well....
If I may be so bold as to make a request: a Stalingrad Scenario AAR...tried it multiple times. It's hard. My best win came at turn 18...end of campaign.....

Very glad I read about the game on these forums: must-buy for me.

I'll start a thread about Stalingrad.

In my last attempt, I managed a BV at turn 6 (which surprised me greatly), but that was after both the AI and me made an error in our deployment. The AI's error corrected mine, however.

Thanks in advance ComradeP. Looking forward to it and very curious what you come up with. BV in 6 turns...[&o]

The scenario is finely balanced...I tried to cut the rail lines to the north of Stalingrad a couple of turns in one game and it appeared to work really well; I was one turn late (18) in taking Stalingrad, so the campaign ended there. When I replayed the scenario I sped like a vulture for the rail lines in the north to disrupt supply early and have an easy sweep in the cente;, this time though the AI came up with strong countermoves up north and frontal attacks in the centre (near bridge) to disrupt my own supply lines. It took me so long to wipe out this breakthrough that a DV was no longer possible.....

Hey Spelk, could you tell me how you recorded the game? What software did you use? Is there a freeware version anywhere? I might be able to use that in some work I've got coming up but have never done it before.

Thanks!
