zzodr: Hi! Yeah, SS RO-41 got a bit overkilled so to speak! [:D]

The japanese submarines have been a menace. CV Intrepid is actually sunk and CV Victorious is likely to be sunk after that night airstrike.

I haven't seen the next combat replay so hard to comment what he is up to but he did move some LBA fighters into region. Naturally I have ordered those airfields to be bombed hard immediately.

As for next phase of operations now that Manado is secured. I do have couple of diffrent plans and one will include htting Borneo.

To be honest haven't decieded on that one just yet... I will deciede that in next couple of turns.

I want to find where BB Yamamoto and his carriers are operating from. No intel on that one just and that is quite important piece of information.

We will continue to push forward at Burma. That I can say for 100% certainty.

Well.. the plans will become clear soon... yoi don't have to wait long! [;)]

A little heads up. I have been somewhat busy with work lately but the game is ongoing and will do proper update on the weekend.

Another thing that I think after playing this game for what 5 years now counting the classic witp. Well, I feel after my PBEM's are done I'am done with this game for good.

It is a good game in it's scale but it still has way too many annoying "features"... ie. the ground combat system, random air to air results and occasional bugs.

This has nothing to do with the PBEM guys I'am up againts. They are all very respectable persons.

Maybe feeling the game fatigue a bit or such... at least that how I feel now. It might change but seriously doubt that fact.

Oh.. enough of that I guess... also will update the Hartwig game monthly (game date wise) as promised.

A fair heads up to all the people that have been following my campaigns starting from the classic witp.

April 1945

Post by aztez »

It has been a while since this AAR got updated.

We are now closing into summer of 1945 and making slow progress to reach the end of this game.

Here is an short recap of things and few pics from the game.

The Pacific (April 21st 1945)

China

All quiet except few minor skirmishes in southern China. I'am ready to make an push here though when green light is given.

Russia

Troops are preparing for the upcoming slugfest againts Manchuko garrison.

The pilot experience levels are looking quite nice here. Also training the bomber crews to succeed on navalstrike missions.

Australia

Conducting small scale city liberation raids in Northern Oz. The japanese have moved out of the continent for good.

Southern Pacific / Philippines

This has been the main theatre of actions lately.

Allied troops did land Tacloban and surrounding bases. Thus we did initially bypass the main base at Davao.

The initial landings went ok but ever since we did capture the bases the japanese airforce and navy have been very active here.

In response allied have launched few large scale sweep missions againts Manila. It is quite nice to be in the range for the Philippine capital.

There has been no major CV vs CV action but KB did pull off an sneak attack further south while my carriers were operation further north.

Allied carriers tried to engage the enemy but unfortunately they slipped away.

All in all both sides have lost several hundred aircraft in this region.

Last turn allied DD TF engaged the enemy and if the battle reports are worth their weight than we did hit BB Nagato and BB Fuso near Tacloban.

Burma

Japanese troops are pulling into Bangkok. The recon shows 61 units in the city.

This ofcourse means that we have dislodged the enemy resistance further up north.

I have almost done the logistic part here so we will start heading further down ibto Burma very soon.

Hi Aztez, just caught up and 1945 is really interesting esp as Japan sill look to be in great shape at the moment. With regards to your 'to do' summary i can only second the Fuel to OZ asap its critical. My favoured route is abadan-socotra-Cape town-Perth. The US sends the odd one but i dont have control over that side of the war.

anyhoo , have fun and take care.

Rob
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Commander Cody:  Thanks. I will do another update this week. We are progressing but not a turn a day pace.

Definately the action is somewhat heated though.

zzodr:  Both sides have done few flying lessions [:D] ...the airwar is very intense in 1945.

Rob: Thanks Rob! Good to see you around the boards as well.

The japanese are definately in "good" shape but giving my utmost in terms of resistance and action. That is not an suprise though.

Yeah, the fuel is important but have few routes cleared so I should do ok.

Waiting to get my hands on the russians... they should carry quite a lot of firepower!

Philippines (May 4th 1945)

Japanese navy have conducted multiple bombardment runs againts Manado.

Obvious target this one also since it has level 9 airfield already operational.

The raids have included the monster BB Yamato and other capital vessels.

My recon planes have been unable to spot the home harbour of these raids but that must be somewhere around DEI.

The air to air battles have raged on and in past turns the losses have been 150-400 in total.

Dave is using his divebombers somewhat aggressively and with high losses have sunk few ships.

The recon shows that Manila is the main base for his fighter operations.

Allied invasion of Mindanao is about to begin. Only minor or weak oppositon are expected on the ground.

This island will give me more support bases for aircraft and personel thus it needs to be seized.

The question is whether Dave will try to intervene with his naval assets.

Also supply convoys are heading and unloading at Leyte Gulf...

Burma / China (May 4th 1945)

Allied troops will start moving into Thailand.

Japanese have 63 units at Bangkok most likely behind very well build defenses.

It will take somedays before the enemy defensive plans becomes obvious.

In central China IJA laucnhed large scale ground offensive which was repulsed.

Now we will grind this one through and hopefully chinese are able to hold out.

Yup, aztez, nice to see an old veteran's playing the game. I would be delight if you could update your AAR more frequently [:)]

pauk: OMG! Likewise pauk! There are still quite a few oldtimers active here.

Never thought that I have now played this and witp regularly +5 years now!

Really good to see you still browsing the forums!  How have you been? I do hope everything is well in Croatia! [:)]

You playing AE? ... I know the AAR's got borked by few unnamed people so that is forums loss in general.

You are too somewhat guilty participant that I got into the witp in the first place! Well, among couple of others! [:D]

I know and promise to try to keep this AAR more frequent since quite a lot of happening or going to happen around the map.

I have two other PBEM's ongoing and RL have interfered these somewhat badly lately.

Damn long journey to get this and particulary looking forward of getting Soviets active. They have massive forces and now quite experienced aircrews too.

Also, KB is still operational amongs the Yamato monsters... so we shall see.

I'am still somewhat off from starting bombing campaign againts the home islands but should get to do that too in due time.

I will lose on points but than again this game has been journey and I think Dave has enjoyed this one too.

heh! I did take a break from Witp for a few years... played something not so demading - Astro empires... free online game. It was a fun, but with each new server it becomes more and more difficult to play underdog. And, ofc (just in case that someone doubt[:D], devs interfered into this nice and easy playing game) and ruined it.

Croatia is fine for now, but we are expecting several tough years in front of us :)

No, i do not play AE, you know my reasons [;)]. But i do still lurk here and reading veteran's AARs. Its relaxating and interesting. Im trying to play WiTE now (and im using Finns to crush bad soviets [:D]) - its excellent game, but i dont have enough time for it - perhaps i grew up finaly?![;)]

And yes, your opponent is real devil.

Glad you are posting again. I have missed your updates. My game is at about 5/44 myself. Viperpol is a tough one to play in scen 2. He has pretty much taken China out, but I can't complain elsewhere. I have just about taken back all the Aleutians, isolated Rabaul, am pushing towards Rangoon and have been slugging it out around Sabang where I have a foothold and have been able to damage some of his oil. Problem is KB is intact. But I have yet to lose a CV myself. We have not had a carrier clash since about 3/43 and are due for one. And, it will be a big one when it happens.[;)]

pauk: Good to hear that everything is fine down there. I doubt we never grow up completely to abandon these games! [:D]

I have been looking into that War in the East monster and definately something I might want to buy at some day.

Than again is would be waste of money now since don't have the time to learn it properly.

crsutton: I would call that progress after all the punishement you took in early war!

Actually sounds to me that the tide is definately turning and once you deal with his carriers you can step up the campaing.

If you win that clash ofcourse! ... [:D]

Philippines (May 16th 1945)

US forces have landed at Mindanao and made an succesfull invasion.

We now have firm foothold at Davao and are expanding our territory there.

Japanese made few bomber runs againts the invasion fleet but those were easily repulsed by allied pilots.

We have kept the pressure on againts Manila despite both sides getting substantial losses.

The idea is to increase increase allied bomber presence in this region step by step. We already made few runs againts Manila that were semi succesfull.

Dave has kept quite a few aircraft and ships docked at Takao. Last turn the B29's visited the base and did ok....

I wonder whether those bombs did damage to his ships. I have my doubts but than again there is always a chance.

B29's also visited Saigon so and scortched some aircraft there. That was an nice bonus also.

I have kept these guys training a bit so this might have been a bit of an suprise to him.

There is no sign of KB but it is definately somewhere close to Philippines.

I'am building up more airfields in this region and hoping to have few level 9's operational by early june.

In China Dave has not launched new ground offensives after that massive failed in central china.

At Burma troops are moving further into southern Thailand but it will take a bit before they enter Bangkok area.
