Problem
Hi all,
since my first pbem turn (and now we've almost reached turn number 500!) i've had the dreaded synch bug problem....
It went away for some time, but now it has appeared in strenght.
4 turns out of 5 my reply shows things that never happened.
And oftern the two combat report txt files are (the one with date and the one without the date) are different.
I've always lived with it, always making comparison between what i saw in the reply and what i read on the two different combat reports...
...but it's getting really time consuming and i thought it would have been usefull to ask if there's something i can do to solve it.
Yes, we play with the same beta (the latest) version and yes, my pc should have enough RAM to deal with the game.
Can someone give me some tips?
Thanks guys
GJ

The only time I know of it occurring recently is when orders are given under a different version than the combat replay is run under. That would be the first thing I would look at. Sorry, I realize that is likely very little help.

RE: Problem
No, i'm sure we're playing the same beta pacth...and we've always been very carefull in that aspect...
Well, it seems i'm the only one who still suffers from this problem...so it's probably due to some specs of my system...i just don't know how to fix it

+1 the annimation does not pick up on certain events but the combat reporter is accurate ...
Maybe have both sides upgrade to r4?

we did! But i had the same problem with most of the betas...
RE: Problem
Ok so the problem is that combat reporter is not matching the annimation correct?
If so, the combat reporter simply scans the [SAVE] directory given the paramters you provide, and sorts data into categories. So this problem might be reduced to the presence, or content of the *.txt files in the Save directory. [or archive if you specify this directory ..]
Is there any information in particular that is missing in the combat report or does not jive?
One other thing, what are you annimation settings? Is it possible that events are being passed over in the annimation, but are really happening and show up in the combat report?
Just my thoughts using my previous experiences diagnosing software behaviors .. [8D]
EDIT: DOCUP documents in his thread a observing a battle in animation that on the next turn did not happen. At least the results of the battle were not applied to the forces involved.

RE: Problem
Back when this was a frequent problem, but I have not seen it in a long time.
With that said, when it was a problem the way to re-synch was as follows (I think, this is from memory and it has been a while[&:])
1. Japanese player turns off Animations
2. Allied player turns off animations (??? I don't remember if this is necessary)
3. Run two turns.
4. Japanese player turns on animations
Sometimes you would have to do this a couple of times but then the two would get back in synch and there would not be a problem for weeks. Surely someone else remembers this better than I do

RE: Problem
Do you get any warnings when the saves are loaded? Like different version or different pwhex?

No micheal, thanks but it's not that. I never experienced that message cause we always take care of using the same version.
What it's strange is that even the two combat report files are different between each other...[&:]
RE: Problem
Ive had that happen in a recent game also. Has to be a setting difference between you and the Jap player. To minimize the chance for sync errors you should make sure ALL your settings are the same, including display delay time. Id bet that that solves the problem.

Did this work GreyJoy? If so maybe Michealm can isolate the sequince for causing this problem.
