OT: Best Game to buy for Christmas!!!!

Post by sventhebold »

I have been given the option to buy ONE game for Christmas, I like strategy/operational class games.
I already own
Civ 5 (sucks) WITP, WITE, Distant Worlds (all 3), Panzer Corps and a few more.
What else sounds good?

AGEOD's American Civil War (abbreviated AACW) is a solid game.

You could check into Hearts of Iron Series, there so many of them. I couldnt say which is best, depend on how complex you want it.

Yes sir I have AE. USS America I am busy in a PBEM against Pompack as the Japanese. This time around I have sunk 3 of his CV's and are getting better at this game. I love it! But he reminds me at every turn i have a LOT to learn.
I also have the early HOI but did not care much for it.

Sven, how ya doing?

A few of games the I've always enjoyed. The Campaign Series: Rising Sun, East Front, West Front. Or the Combat Mission Series. Then my other favotites are Silent Hunter IV or III.
I did a little Silent Hunter IV last night after a couple of turns of WitP-AE.
This is one Czech that doesn't bounce.

I have Tactic II...it was a great game in the early 60s...
Sventhebold... from the list of games you have, I would think the Battles from the Bulge would be a great choice...

...but if you are more for a strategy game...Europa Universalis 3 while reading Sharon Kay Penman's great novels might be a fun thing to do...

I can second CM:Normandy

Good game and as more content gets released it'll just get better. Personally I am having a hard time waiting for the East front to come back into the rotation as I have great memories of CM:BB.

If you went for Hearts of Iron- HOI 2 was the best of the series IMO- although I haven't been back to play HOI III since I gave up on it. They may have improved it.

Hearts of Iron 2 "Arsenal of Democracy" is pretty good, didnt like Iron Cross. Iron Cross seem to be bugged in Vista 64bit OS and other features was different. Also didnt like HoI III either, it took many months to fix it and along with SF expansion made alittle progress.

So IMO HoI II AoD would be best setup depend on if you using mods.

AGEOD's American Civil War or Revolution Under Siege. Same company. They look shabby but are truly deep [:)]

Alas, I wore mine out. Don't have many board games left. I still play Advanced Squad Leader but that is about it.

I kept my old Jutland game only because I had the flu when I was 14 and threw up on the box. It still has some 42 year old dried vomit on it. Call me sentimental but I just can't get myself to get rid of it...[:D]

HoI3 with For the Motherland expansion is a very good game imo and feels what HoI3 should have been out the box (I picked it up relatively soon after release). I just did a playthrough since then with Turkey and it was a lot of fun. Ironically enough I've been tossing around playing Japan next to try a sort of meta strategy before tackling this game. [:)]
