Question About Game

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Question About Game

Post by CBase »

It is apparent some WITE players have issues with this game. Specifically, the retreat eastward of the Red army in 1941. Is this problem just for human vs human games or is this an issue with the AI? In other words, is this an enjoyable game to play versus the AI?

I think WITE is one of the best wargames I have ever played. And while I understand the AI is getting better, it is a poor substitute for a competent human player. Human vs AI is a good boot camp, no substitute for the real thing.

CBase the major issue of the game for some people is for human versus human games.  There really isn't a reason for the Red Army to stand and fight and that seems to frustrate some people.  Versus the AI its great fun....until you get the itch.  Then only another person can satisfy that hunger [:D]..... yes I'm talking about zombies and cannibalism [:'(]

I'm a bit of a hystrionic critic of a sequence of stupid mechanics that punish Germany to compensate for an overly weak 1941 Red Army, and I'm not giving up the notion that I'm right and others are wrong any time soon.

But I would not discourage anyone from buying the game.
Against the AI, it is an exceptional game when the difficulty settings are properly tuned to your abilities.

Against a human, there are a number of problems with a number of things, but nothing seems outright game-breaking.  I think when you start with a few Soviet games against a seasoned German opponent (i.e. when you're fairly evenly balanced with the German being the more experienced player), it is also a great game.  It's got a good competitive feel.

And Matrix support ranks with the best I've seen in PC software gaming.

Take it from a critic: you won't be disappointed you bought it (but don't buy the printed manual! it's already outdated)

The printed manual is a giant waste IMHO.

It isnt even a full manual and only really gives you interface info

The AI is very good, especially after this latest patch. The problems people have are when playing with other people. I've been playing the game most of the year and never thought it was unplayable or unrealistic.

I can no problem. I am just saying that I would have just bought the download version had I known the printed manual was only a partial.

I love the game, by the way

The Ai is a lot of fun to play, and worth the price for that alone.
The PBEM play and the multiplayer server take it to a whole other level.
