Great idea Rich. I agree with you that having complete control over LBA would be ideal.

I have played many of the so-called "modern, flashy games" with all the 3D, etc. . . and while these games might look better, more often than not, they don't play better.

That's why I find many of the older games, while they may not have the flash, they certainly have the gameplay. And these older games cover topics that you will never see in currrent games.

I'll be looking forward to more great stuff from you Rich.

Hi Rich,

will PacLink be able to bring the result of a Carrier Strike battle back to Pacwar?

Yes, PacLink will eventually include the return of Carrier Strike game results back to Pacwar. Unfortunately, time constraints and a heavy effort on Uncommon Valor has prevented me from finishing up the work. Hopefully soon...

Rich

"In this release, the return of data back to Pacwar is not yet functional.  It will probably take a few more weeks to complete this work"

Really old thread, but anyone know if Rich ever finished this project?

Looks like not, last thing I see is that data from the completed battle cannot be sent back into PW. Actaully I'm not surprised and this would seem to be a tremendous undertaking.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm really thinking these two old games have a lot to offer if you ignore the graphics.  PacWar is at a high enough level that you could actually finish a war and still have a life and Carrier Strike gets into the nitty gritty of carrier operations even more than Carriers at War, but doesn't tie you into insane level of micromanagement of everything else.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to play out a battle in Carrier Strike and then go into the PacWar save game and 'sink' the ships that were sunk in the Carrier Strike play through.  Not perfectly accurate, but not too bad.  Just no idea about how to edit the save game. Anyone know how to do this?

Save files edit just like obc files. They're the same thing.

Ships sunk by editing may not show up in the score. Don't know, just suggesting it as a possiblity.

Pacwarriors, are you tired of Yamamoto kicking you from one end of the Pacific to the other? Is Halsey not aggressive enough for you? Think you could do better if you only had the chance? Then PacLink may be the answer.

PacLink will port any 1700 mile by 1400 mile area of your Pacific War map into Carrier Strike, and it will bring every base, ship, and air-group in the area with it. Create all new scenarios taken from Pacific War for play in Carrier Strike at an operational level. The entire Pacific Theatre is represented down to a 17 mile hex size. If you want, when you have finished your game in Carrier Strike, you can port the results back to Pacific War for continued strategic level play.

Best of all, it’s free, and finally available for download at my website:

This is the first release, so I’m expecting you to find some bugs. Let me know what you encounter, and I’ll do my best to fix them. In this first release, the return of data back to Pacwar is not yet functional. It will probably take a few more weeks to complete this work. But in the meantime, you can use PacLink to generate new scenarios for Carrier Strike. Besides the PacLink tool, you’ll also find improved graphics in this download. To get you started quick, I’ve included 2 scenarios created with PacLink: Pearl Harbor in savea, and Coral Sea in saveb. Have fun!

Hopefully this new tool will add some new enjoyment to your Pacific War and Carrier Strike play while we all wait for Matrix Games great new Pacific Theatre products!

Regards,

Rich Dionne

Carrier Strike's too buggy to be played IIRC. I think it was Carrier Strike.

What version? Perhaps I didn't use the latest?
