I buy game--it don't work--please help

Post by Javolenus »

Hi There,

I just bought CoI. The game installed OK but it won't launch. When I click 'play' on the game's launcher, my screen turns black--and that's it, no game, no nothing. I have to ctrl+alt+del to get out.

Last week I bought 'Korsun Pocket' and that game won't launch either (I'm still awaiting a fix from Matrix). And so, I've bought two games from Matrix that won't actually play. I am disappointed. Please can someone help?

Also, I bought this game because I thought it was single-player, but having read the forums it seems it's multi-player, is that right? Please advise!

Many thanks in advance for help.

My specs are:

OS: MS Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+

RAM: 3.0GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz

MOTHERBOARD: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4N72-E (AM2)

GRAPHICS: 512MB GeForce 9600 GT (XFX Pine Group)

HARD DRIVE: 156GB SAMSUNG SAMSUNG HD161GJ (IDE)

OPTICAL DRIVE: Optiarc DVD RW AD-5200A

SOUND CARD: UA-25EX

DIRECT X: DX Version 10.0

try holding down ctrl when you launch.

then turn off videos

alternatively

download the intel codec from http://closecombat.matrixgames.com/CoI/coimods.html

then run that before launching. (only needs to be run once)

Hi Andrew and many thanks for the quick response.

I tried holding down CTRL when launching but that didn't work. I then followed your link to download the Intel Codec but when I click to download, nothing happens--in other words, it doesn't actually download. Sorry to be a pain, but is there an alternative way to download the Codec? Many thanks!

hmmm.. just downloaded the codec fine...

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/closecomb ... 5setup.exe

What happened when you ctrl launched ... you should get a pop up options box.

Hi Andrew,

Many thanks for this. OK, problem solved: basically, I didn't press down CTRL first--and keep it pressed down--but now I have it sussed and the game started up fine.

As for the Codec--I still can't download it, even from your new link. I click on the file to download but nothing happens--except that the DL waiting time keeps clocking up (e.g. 5 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins etc., etc.).

Nevertheless, the game is now startable, so maybe I don't need the Codec anyway?

Once again, many thanks for the prompt reply!

You will only miss a couple of intro videos

If you navigate to your C:\Program Files\Close Combat\Close Combat III\VIDEOS\  folder you can watch the videos anyway.
