Will not Start!

I downloaded DW and both the expansions today. Installed and updated as directed, but when I attempt to launch, I get a windows error. I am using Windows XP. I tried reinstalling everything a couple times. I get the same error on DW, RotS and Legends if I try to launch them at each install step. I have updated my DirectX and video drivers, as well as most anything else I could think of. My Crashdump, gives me some grumbling about fonts....

Not really sure what this all means. I have also tried verbal abuse and threats of violence against both my monitor and tower, but to no avail. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated...

Hello Spartus, and welcome to the forums. [:)]

From your crash dump file, I'd bet your Verdana font file got corrupted some how. I'd suggest
taking your WinXP disk and reloading your Verdana font set (Regular, Bold & Italic) to your
Windows/Font directory. From there, you should start a new game and see if the error occurs.
Hopefully a clean Verdana font file will correct the issue! If not, post back here the next
crashdump file that you'll get! Hope this helps!

Well, there's your problem.  That seems to have fixed it.  Strangely enough the only other copies I had of Verdana font to back up the corrupted ones were actually in my installed Galactic Empires II directory.  Glad I kept it around.

You're very welcome Spartus! I'm glad to hear that my diagnosis was correct. I was going to
send you the Verdana fontset if you didn't have it, but I'm glad you found a set. This is what
