Corps vs divisions

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Divisions imho are not for the front lines but better as a reserve and garrison unit, or for very weak sectors. Corps are the main strength of the game. In my exp corps defeat divisions with no difficulty.

The answer came so early in the thread it is surprising the discussion has gone on so long. It all depends on how strongly you wish to hold an area, it has already been commented that there is no stacking in the game, so that if you can manage one division to hold a 30 mile wide hex, that's going to be weak against a strong attack, but it will slow the enemy down and you can build divisions fairly quickly. A corps sized unit is essentially several divisions stacked together and will be much stronger, but you may not have enough Corps units on hand and they take time to build. Corps units allow you to concentrate your strength, Division units allow you to spread out your strength. Great Game. [:)]

Sorry Rasputitsa that is my fault. I joined matrix forums bc after many years of reading the posts in the forums I decided o join, I thought the people on here shared my intrest in gaming and history. But I guess unless you have over 1000 posts you don't know anything. I love this game and want to do anything in my power to make it better. I won't say anything more about this.

Feel free to post anything you want. You did make rather forceful posts on this subject, so others were forceful in return.

Agreed. However being told that a unit didn't existed(999th) or being told that I'm pure folly, I had to respond and sometimes you have to be forceful to prove a point when you are called a liar.

what was the topic?
right.. what is better.. ??/
again, depends on circumstances and needs..  divisions  melt like snow on a hot day, but u may wanto  use them...
I often chuckle when hugely abstracted are compared to reality, the goal is the end result and not neccessarily the path to get there.. call them corps or armies.. its about the structure of leadership imo.. anyway, this little gem of a game continues to impress..

I don't think this will happen any time soon, if ever, but ...

what I'd love to see in this game is no production of corps, only divisions. Then a mechanism to create corps from divisions, and a mechanism to break down corps into divisions. This could be done without stacking, similar to the current merge and split mechanisms.

It would probably be harder to teach the AI when and how to do this than to actually implement the feature, so it will probably never happen.

not to those who have yet to buy this, you can indeed coun terattack both supperior, German, armor in 40 and get a win, as well as red armor, early with infantry and force retreats or surrender, or even kills, its just hard to do in 40 in France.. as it should be...

Don't pay any attention to how may posts contributers have amassed, it's not necessarily a sign of wisdom, the main thing is that we all have views and everyone has the right to share them, the more we share the better the game should become.

My suggestion, to stretch the thread even further, is that I would like to see some sort of organisation, such that Corps would be linked to certain commanders, to create an Army organisation.

I think that Corps sized units are the right basic unit for this scale of game, other titles just have too many units, if you try to do everything at division scale. So far the game feels right, divisions and corps to use as you see fit.[:)]

Merging and splitting units is a great feature, but the problem with splitting is you lose the use of one of the units for several turns and it's usually the wrong unit that gets frozen. Maybe I haven't got the hang of it yet, in choosing how much strength to split off[&:]

I agree! I only use divisions to garrison . Corps are the real meat and potatoes of my army. I only spit when I surround a city...it's a neat trick I think when your forces are thin.

Now the bum fight is over, another thing that add would a bit more variety, is expanding gwgardner idea using divisions as building blocks, and having support divisions eg arty AT engineers, different combos would give a corps different advantages/disadvantages.
