Looking especially for suitable "spacey" music.
For instance my in game music folder currently contains this album:
Biosphere: N-Plants
I always keep the legends intro theme as default becuase I love it. the other music in the game is good too but becomes too repetitive after a few hours.
SO lets see it what do you guys listen to?

That is when you turn on the good ol' CD player and rock out to the Scorpions "Rock you like a Hurricane". [;)]
I'm pretty varied, but I generally listen to rock while playing...just sets the mood.

Some of the sadder Halo music (say, from the soundtrack) is absolutely perfect. I listen to it as a legacy from the FL:CE mod I was a part of.

My personal soundtrack is varied misc of music from Star Control 2, EVE Online, X3, MoO2, SR2, SoaSE, concept music from Infinity Universe and some other spacey, eerie music I've run into.
Some examples from my soundtrack:
Under a Red Sky
Akat Mountains
Surplus of rare artifacts
Hidden Mementos
Exploration
Long way ballad "Space trucker theme" as I like to call it. [:)]
I like good rock and heavy too, but SciFi games need proper ambient music if you ask me.

Not particularly spacey. More 'Moviesque'.
Company/Music Group:
Two Steps from hell (Songs: Freedom Fighters, Invincible, etc. Theyt got tons of beautiful music to listen to and admire...latest album nero is fantastic)
Audiomachine (Unfinished life, etc)
Epic Music
Brand X Music
Groove Addicts
All great. Very motivational and just overall quite moving.

Music? First thing I do with any new game is turn the music off.
Don't get me wrong. I like my music but endless loops of it during games sends me gaga. If I want music I'll put on a cd or turn on the radio.
When I buy a game what I want is a game to play - not fancy video cutscenes, not slick muzak, not flashy graphix or sexy pow-pow noises... Trouble is I usually get a sh*t load of these and very little game. [:@]
p.s. J HG T loved the space trucker ballad - same mob that does the Cities in Motion soundtrack if I'm not mistaken.

Well i cant post them, but if you have the game or can buy it...
I am using good themes from Galactica Civilization 2, deep space exploration is really stunning.

I have a you tube selection of Clint Eastwood western movies sound tracks I listen to while playing most everything.

The first thing I do after installing and starting up any game the first time is disable the background music. It's just too distracting for my gaming enjoyment.

Well im not sure what taste you looking for, if you have pc knowledges and can do some recording and changing the format to mp3. If you have high tech sound card in your rig, besurprised how far that can go if you set it up right.
Here few epic soundtracks can use...

There are so many of them, some good ones i have recorded myself and cant seem to find it. Keep looking maybe you will find what you are looking for, it may take awhile to put all this together. By the time you finish your project, would be a masterpiece of your work while playing.
good luck

I like the music the game comes with. Barring that I would probably go with Radiohead for spacey sounding music. Anything from OK Computer on has some good futuristic sounding tracks IMO.

I think the game's soundtrack does have some great moments but I prefer something a bit more sparse when it's on a loop. The music that is packaged in Baleur's mod made by AlienHand is excellent, if you like something that is mostly ambient then the cold/desolate theme is a superb fit.
Anything by John Serrie is also great in a similar vein, mostly atmospheric but also very musical and he's made countless albums and work for some of the biggest companies around. Check out something like this. I hit upon him by chance, I had no idea who he was.

i usually turn all but the warning sounds off and play music instead. my subwoofer likes to take the sound ships make when they are taking hull damage and shake the whole room no matter what volume i try to change it to. and there is never a shortage of ships taking hull damage in my games!
and i play music like this....

the room still shakes anyways [:D]

I like the freakiness of The Flaming Lips when playing DW. The album I most associate with DW is Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots [:D]
Here's one song from the album...you GOTTA check it out if you like something a bit....different.[;)]

tis' a good album. probably the best of the band imo
RE: Post the Music you listen to while playing DW.
Yeah, agreed, but I also sometimes like a bit of their more poppy songs, like those from The Soft Bulletin.
In my most recent epic game, I've gone down a more folk route, listening to the Fleet Foxes and Neil Young. But it doesn't really feel the same [:D]

AlienHand is really good too.
Even if some of the rock music is in my humble opinion bit out of theme for DW its still good to listen to it in other contexts.
And all the suggestions are very good as well thanks guys I will spend the next weeks going trough each of them one by one! I dont have a set preference or style that I am looking for, just post whatever you like and you feel fits with the game. The more choices you have the better you are off its always good to try out something new.
Keep em coming! (ill post some of my other stuff later on)
RE: Post the Music you listen to while playing DW.
I like listening the normal DW ingame music.
But sometimes I start up Bolero from Maurice Ravel on repeat (it´s ~17min). That´s so relaxing while exterminating the other races.

And sometimes Imperial March from John Williams.

Both above mentioned played by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
