Usage of SU flamethrower units and flame tanks

Post by governato »

If tanks were scary for the infantry..just think of flame tanks. The Red Army (and the Axis) used lots of them (D. Zabecki, WWII in Europe page 976). They were attached to engineer recon, AND ASSAULT units' (emphasis mine). They were 'especially useful in urban combat'.

Has anybody tried attaching a Flame tank SU unit to a Red Army unit? What is your experience compared to good old sapper SUs against forts?

I've ordered flame tank units here and there; on the higher resolution of combat I saw them causing some damage the enemy.  I saw just a few battles on this higher resolution, with perhaps 20% of the tanks doing damage, with the tank unit having lower experience at the time ( around 30-40 ).

You won't get good results extremely early in the war; the early flame tanks are flimsy things, with T-34 based ones taking some time to be produced.
