search arcs

Post by sven6345789 »

Hi,
starting a new round playing this game after a while away on the eastern front.
Question: search arcs were broken a while back. playing under 1.0.4.1106i, the last official patch dating from october last year. Are the search arcs working us designed in that version (1.0.4.1106i)?

No, pretty sure they are still broken.  Fixed in the beta though for sure.

Look for latest Official Patch. In the member download section dated in Dec 2011. It has almost 500+ updates.

That is listed as a "pubic beta", not an official patch.

It is "official beta" but this patch is more stable than official 1106i.
He fix so many things and give so many enhancements that you need to have it.

I think they operated backwards from what you set.
I think that the two obligations you have are to be good at what you do and then to pass on your knowledge to a younger person

What is this "pubic beta" of which you people speak. Sounds kinky.

Freeboy: People had more luck setting the arcs to random before. The beta is the bee's knees. It has vast numbers of enhancements. Hell, just the ability to harvest trained pilots in groups of ten is worth it.

bug fixes
69) Fixed search arcs being generated in reverse sequence.
70) Added direction switch on the search arcs.
71) Tweaked display of search arcs to emulate above changes - sectors sharing AM/PM search show as Black (Naval) or White (ASW).

So should not be a problem...

How about just updating to latest beta?

There is really no reason why not.

that is an oxymoron

it is a "beta" - there is a reason why they decided not to issue it as a final patch and because it is still in beta is a reason not to update.

I'm afraid I don't follow that logic. Beta in this case does not mean untested!!

This latest beta is a result of the spiral software development model where changes are introduced, released, tested and then the next version rapidly generated based on feedback from the previous iteration.

The current beta is stable and fully tested with all known bugs fixed. If a bug turns up it will be reported on the forums for the information of everyone and a fix released with the next iteration (usually within a week or two). This is in stark contrast to the waterfall model where the last official release contains a multitude of known bugs that are waiting for a fix in the next release which may be months away (and will probably contain additional bugs that will have to wait for fixes in the following release - months later again).

The only drawback to a spiral model is that the current beta will not be the last version which makes it a bit of work keeping up. However, if you don't need the latest version or you are running a PBEM where you need to stay synchronised with your opponent, then just don't download the latest beta. Pick a beta version you like and stick to it. Any recent beta version will be more stable, have less bugs and more features than the last official V1106i.

Once they declare the freeze for an official release all development will stop so everyone is keen to stay beta and for MichaelM to continue applying fixes and improvements for as long as possible.

Cheers,
Reg.

Knyvet, not upgrading to the latest beta is missing a whole lot of great
new features and bugfixes, really, give it a try. Its worth it.

We waited very long to upgrade our PBEM, and with hindsight I admit we should have
done this step much earlier. I am not even a quarter through all the great improvements
implemented since 1106i.

The reason its remains beta is that Michael is thankfully implementing small
packages of fixes and improvements as he finds and developes them on the run,
and some experienced players support him continousely at testing.

The turnaround schedule is so fast that it doesn´t make much sense to deliberately label one of the versions
"official patch", theres no factual argument to support the decision which of the betas should
be chosen for this.
