Graphics problem

Post by darkman257 »

Purchased game for christmas. It installs with no problem. Problem starts after the main menu appears.I try to move the mouse and the screen streaks and all buttons disappear. The buttons will appear one at a time if I run the cursor over them. I have updated all drivers and downloaded the lastest update 1106i. So far I have not been able to play the game (really looking forward to this one).

My system is an Area 51, i7 960, 3.2Ghz, 12GB DDR3, Dual ATI Radeon HD 5770, 1GB GDDR5, Windows 7

I ordered two other games, Panzer Corp and Distant Worlds-Return of the Shakturi. They both load and run as advertised. Thanks in advance.

I think Matrix HelpDesk has passed this on.

Now - Let's work the problem.

What switches are you using for the shortcut to the exe?

What do u mean by switches. During installation I said yes to a shortcut being added to my desktop. I use that shortcut to launch the the game.

The shortcut properties contains the basic parameters.

Over the time, it has been found that different CPUs and O/S require tweaking these parameter.
There should be a WhatsNew.pdf in the installation directory that contains these performance switches.

Let us know how it goes ... Make sure you've at least got the 1106i comprehensive patch.

Still no joy
I've tried the following switches so far
SingleCpuStart -cpu1 and 2
SingleCpuOrders -cpu2
-wd -altFont -cpu2 -multiaudio -dd_sw
-dd_sw

I have the 1106i patch

How can I upload a picture of my screen so u can see what I'm talking about. Thanks for your patience.

I think you're the one being patient ... it is however worth the wait [;)]

I believe someone else with an Alienware machine had a graphics problem like this some time ago ... will have a search.

While ATI graphics cards are mostly good, their drivers are often buggy. I see you updated the drivers - So, I guess we play around until we find a solution:

[*]Uninstall the ATI drivers and see if the default windows drivers work.
[*]Reinstall the ATI drivers. (maybe see if there are some legacy drivers)
[*]Try the widescreen support settings. Find the native resolution of your monitor and use the -py -px switches.
[*]Try different Windows screen resolution settings.
[*]Run in xp compatibility mode.

Good luck

Beyond frustrating now. I uninstalled game, reinstalled and then tried to update. I've clicked on "check for update" three times. Each time it has run down to 0.01 and has and error downloading from server. I will keep trying from day to day to get this to work. Same problem persist of course.

Hi, you can try this: go to your game folder and search for the 'SOUND' and 'VIDEO' directory; now rename
this to 'noSOUND' and 'noVIDEO' then run the game...it work for me.

Darkman -
Did you do the things I suggested? Also don't use the Matrix update, just download the comprehensive patch.

Cheers

darkman, if you have still problem with "check for update", you can download latest official patch directly from this link WITP Admiral's Edition v1.01.06i Official Update and optionally you can download latest beta patch from this Patch 06 - Public Beta thread
