Data tracking

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Data tracking

Post by Helpless »

As I can see some guys are doing manual tracking of various items in their AARs. We have plans to make CR information exportable, but it could take a long time to implement. Therefore there is an idea to create a short list of items which could be exported into spreadsheet (csv) and also displayed in the game in graphical form.

The question is what are the most important items (up to 10) you would like to track?

If I could CSV dump everything in the various tabs of the commanders' report and the OOB, that would be cool.

Second on my list would be production output. Either ordered by factory or by city, the following items:

* Location, Factory or city name.
* Type (armaments, HI, vehicle, etc).
* Inputs (resources, supplies, oil) consumed.
* Outputs produced.
* Damage %

It would be better if the game auto-dumped these each turn to a CSV file in the same directory, just like it currently does for the event log. I could then script something up which would load these into a spreadsheet or database and let me do some analysis on the results.

I think I was not too clear. I meant more some generic statistic - men totals, afv totals, gun totals, production items, total losses, turn losses, etc. Exporting detailed CR info would be a separate project.

1. Date
2. Turn
3. Total Men
4. Total Guns
5. Total AFVs
6. Total Airplanes
7. Rifle Squads (Pool/on map)
8. Manpower Pool
9. Armament Pool
10. Total Losses (men/afvs/guns/aircraft)

As Axis I would like to have Total Axis and German Only.

Just the information from the first three information screens would already be extremely helpful.

So, OOB (just the stuff on the right side), losses - ground, air, units (again, just the stuff on the right side would be a huge help), production screen (capacity, pool, built - exact breakdown of individual factories wouldn't be worth it, IMHO).

It would be enough if this could be exported on button press - that would make it able to do more specific breakdowns (after battles, displacements, at the start/end of turns, etc) quite easily without any additional effort on your side.

In addition, a txt export of the logistics screen would also be very useful.

If that is too much, here is my top ten:
1) Men killed
2) Men captured
3) Men disabled
4) Total losses AFV
5) Air losses - by type of plane
6) Total Men (and ready)
7) Total AFV (and ready)
8) Total aircraft (and ready)
9) Total active manpower in the active pool
10) Total armament points in the pool

Don't need Total men lost, as that can be calculated through killed+captured+disabled.

I understand this as evolving a bit the Logistics Report, so there I go:

1) # Soft Ground elements Damaged repaired during Logistics phase (noting Manpower and Armaments used up)
2) # Soft Ground elements Damaged that were written-off during Logistics phase (noting resulting KIA & WIA)
3) # AFV Ground elements Damaged repaired during Logistics phase
4) # AFV Ground elements Damaged written-off during Logistics phase
5) Attrition casualties broken down into KIA, POW and Disabled
6) # On-Map ground units had their Morale increased/lowered
7) # On-Map ground units that received replacements during Refit Replacement Phase
8) # On-Map ground units that received replacements during Normal Replacement Phase
9) # On-Map ground units which receive/didn't receive 100% of the supply and fuel they requested

Other than that, being able to export CR views into CSV's would pretty much cover most of the bases for me.

Thanks for the responses.
In addition, a txt export of the logistics screen would also be very useful.

This one is already done. Check them in save folder. Ex. EventLog(Turn 002 6-29-1944 Ax).txt

OK, I probably will have to duck some thrown tomatoes after saying this, but vehicles numbers (should also be part of OOB data).

A more granulated version of ground elements built would be nice.

Along those lines would be fine with me.
