Aircraft Max Load

Post by jakla1027 »

Ok a question regarding the Max Load slot in the editor under Aircraft.

Say i want to add a new bomber into the game. Now I'll use the B-24D editor stats as an example.
Ok so the Max load is listed as 8000, so if i put 16 500lbs bombs as its bomb load thats 8000lbs of bombs.
So how does having a total of 9 50cal MG's on the aircraft figure in? The device number 161 represents the browning 50cal at 75 load cost per gun/device. The 500lbs GP bomb is device 203 & is listed as 500lbs per bomb/device.
Thus if i put 16 500lbs bombs on my B-24D, maxing out its Max Load, does that mean my B-24D will fly with 8000lbs worth of bombs and no MG's for defence? at the same time my B-24D is suppose to be carrying 9 50cals at 75 a piece, totaling 675lbs, and if im already carrying 8000lbs of bombs(my max load number) does that mean im not taking the MG's along? Do MG's count toward a bombers max Load? (or any plane for that matter?)

So how do you enter in the info for all these factors? Say i want to creat the B-100 bomber with a Max load of 20,000lbs & 12 50cal MG's in various turrets. Now do i enter it in as that it carries 40 500lbs bombs plus the MG's. or do i need to add the MG's wieght into the max load thus carrying only 38 500lbs bombs, thus covering the 12 MG's that total 900lbs for a max load of 19,900, under the 20,000 max load paramater?

I hope this all makes sense cuz my brain is kinda mush right now, so if it does can anyone answer how this works when adding aircraft into the game? or to sum it up how does Max Load work?

anywho im gonna crash for the night so thanks for any & all help

Max load is the maximum bomb or cargo load. It has nothing to do with the machine gun armament of the aircraft.

ok can someone explain why the B-24D (plus many many other allied bombers) is not carrying it's full load in the game & not listed to carry its full max load in the editor? I take to these numbers as my case

So can someone please explain why im geting short changed on my bomb loads??? If my plane can carry 8000lbs of bombs then why is the editor got the B-24D carrying 5000lbs on a normal range mission? These numbers don't make sense and thus where is the other 3000lbs capacity going? Fuel, MG's, over wieght crewman, lugauge? I understand thier may not be enough pyshcial room in a real life B-24D's bomb bay to put 16 500lbs bombs. (totaling 8000lbs, 16x500=8000). so if that is the case then why is the game not set to haul mixed bomb loads, like 1000lbs GP bomb & 500lbs GP bombs at the same time to meet the max load capacity of 8000lbs?

this is not a complaint!!! Im just trying to find how these numbers are suppose to work. If i add in my own aircraft (like the B-19) i dont want them to broken in game play terms just because i set the bomb load to something that wont work!

Thanks,

The max load is used to determine the size of airbase required for normal operations. The minimum airfield size for normal operations is 4 + ( (max load)/6500 )
I think that the two obligations you have are to be good at what you do and then to pass on your knowledge to a younger person

The maximum load number is not employed as you believe it is. It does not directly mean weight of ordnance.

The ordnance is exactly as per what you specify in the weapon slots.

The load number is used for (a) determining whether the penalties applicable to flying out of a too small airfield are applied, and (b) in determining the supply points which can be delivered when used in a supply transport mission.

The bomb load is for the range. While it seems the max load applies to a different issue we know that a B24 could load 8000lb of bombs. If you have 8000lb bomload you'll get less range - It means less 3000lb fuel. I guess the editors considered the typical range for Pacific and choose a bomb load that would give that typical range.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consolidat ... _Liberator
Short range (˜400 mi): 8,000 lb (3,600 kg)
Long range (˜800 mi): 5,000 lb (2,300 kg)
Very long range (˜1,200 mi): 2,700 lb (1,200 kg)
