1.7.0.7 Private Sector Question

Post by Yarasala »

Look at this screenshot: Is it normal that the Private Sector owns nearly no ships after dozens of years into the game with Corporate Nationalism?

No, it's not normal whatever the conditions (gov, race, etc). Even considering that you may have enough resources at each colony so as not to need freighters or enough mining stations to not need mining ships or......even then those ships would be built.
Did you use the editor to delete some private sector ships at some point? I've observed that when I do that the AI does not rebuild all of them but still it rebuilds some.

Check your design screen. Make sure you did not obsolete ships by accident. Other than that, never seen this one. I have a couple hundred civilian ships.

I haven't tried Corporate Nationalism yet... maybe I never will. [;)] But the reason you have so little private ships is the cashflow of the private sector, -68k. My guess is that they are scrapping ships because they cannot afford the running costs. It is a problematic form of government.

iirc, it's "wad" - part of how Corporate Nationalism works.

Note Elliot's response on the matter - the behaviour you're seeing is to be expected.

Hm, ok, I see ...

I had that form of government from the start, and my civilian cash flow was negative since then, so I suppose I had never any benefit from confiscating private money. But if it always works like this then it would not make any sense to give Corporate Nationalism to any empire upon generation [&:]

Anyway, I now have an explanation for that behaviour. Now I only have to bring myself to change government although I absolutely hate losing colonies due to rebellion ...

I logged a bug requesting that it be removed from the startup government types.

It was ignored. Like so many things....
