RE: Blood in the skies

Post by GreyJoy »

August 11, 12 1944

Jeff's idea was a good one. Unfortunately I wasn't focused and i lost a juicy opportunity...Rader this turn moved out of Iwo all those bombers...[:(]...

We bombed Ominato and Hachinoe (yes CC, the clear hex south of Ominato where we're gonna land)...our BBs didn't a good job this time...but our bombers hit hard and on the second day targetted specifically the AA guns (strange!) causing a lot of distruction.
Our surface fleet is ready too.
We're gonna have 2 major BB TFs (one composed of BC Reknown and BB Washington + 2 old CAs + 8 Fletchers and one composed of BB Iowa and BB N.J. plus 2 modern CA - Baltimore Class - and 8 Fletchers), followed by 4 Cruiser TFs (each composed of 3 modern CLs and 9 Fletchers) and 6 DD Divisions (4 Fletchers each)...all of them will covering the landing site.

Loading is proceeding slower than we hoped...but i think in 2 more turns we'll be ready to move from Bihoro.

Krupp...100 Battallions means...how many divisions?12? Well, we're invading Honshu with the equivalent of 20 Divisions...

I Think Dan and the others are right John...in 1944 AEs don't work that way.... but i have my major ports filled with AKEs, AEs and AOs...no shortage of any type in my ship inventory[:D]

Getting closer guys...

My surviving CVEs are moving in too...in 2 turns they'll meet the invasion fleet at Kushiro

Serves me right for commenting on the map while at work (and not knowing the exact base names). Anyway, looking forward to the coming epic clash of steel and aluminum.

Cheers,

Well this is certainly going to be exciting! I think that you should be able to win this battle, those 4engines are simply able to obliterate Japanese troops in the clear hexes, and we have already seen what happens to Japanese troops even in forested terrain in the battles of Hakodate. Would it be worth trying a port attack on the turn before the landing? I think that that should specifically target the coastal guns.
Are all three waves going to be landing at Hachinohe?

If rader's disposition doesn't change dramatically yes. I need to mass my forces in a single point so to have enough firepower to break his lines...once i capture a single base in Honshu....well then evrything can happen!!

The interesting thing now about this AAR is that, having lived in Japan now for 16 years, Ive had opportunities to visit many of the cities you are now mentioning daily. Its sort of an odd feeling. Ive been to Hachinohe a couple of times and its the last stop in the north of the bullet train.. Leave the castle intact if you can!

I don't think troops can "strategic" move into a contested hex. So, once the invasion begins, rader should have to move in reinforcements manually, which will slow him down just a bit (and GJ can use bombing missions to slow them down further).

Great theater, GJ. Thanks so much for keeping up a detailed and graphic AAR.

But shame on you for the name of this operation! [X(]

[:D] Ok guys...turn sent. Will still be a sleepy turn...i made a little mess with Amphib TF composition and loading operations so i had to unload a couple of TFs... In two days (1 turn) however everything should be ready to move from Bihoro... Holding my breath with you guys...[:)]

And "hairy to the bone" must be pronounced with the same rythm of the well known song "Bad to the bone" [:D]

You can strategic move into a contested hex as long as you own the hexside of entry.

I do this all the time in China. Lure the AI into moving against a city on the rail net and then rail in a big stack to bog them down into a siege while I surround them.

Correct! You cannot exit in strat mode from a contested hex but you can enter in it in strat mode..the only problem is that if the enemy attacks while you're still in strat mode...you LCU will be mauled
