What, if any, naval opposition do you intend to make to a NoPac reconquest by the Empire?

Probably none. Reason: The counterinvasion should be swift and employ overhwelming force probably including battleships and perhaps the KB. Therefore, commitment of Allied combat ships would probably lead to a disaster.

But I do have combat ships available, including several slow BBs, CV Wasp, and a CA or two. These guys are hanging around just in case something develops. I'd be more likely to use them beginning in November, when winter conditions set in so that an enemy invasion would be very unlikely to succeed.

I predict that this game has plenty of life left in it. Steve is going to do something, and whether or not he does, the Allies are about to transition into a much more active and dangerous expansion program in the Java Sea.

I've had no word from Alfred or Nemo. Not that they are obligated to reply to my offer. Not that they've even seen it yet (though I suspect Nemo has since he's posted in this AAR several times in the past few days). We'll see if an opportunity arises sometime in the future. I'l be patient in awaiting, and in the meantime we can all enjoy the AARs by rader and GJ.

Ten months post Pearl Harbor....

NoPac: Fewer Tojos sortie this turn. Still no sign of imminent counter-invasion.

CenPac: Important reinforcement convoy carrying 3rd Marines and 220 Navy BF arrvies at Tarawa. Japanese subs provide a rude reception, sinking an xAK and an xAP, but most of both units are already ashore. The Allies now have 711 AV at Tarawa and, as soon as the transports finish unloading, can rebuild the regiments into 3rd Marine Division. Supply looks decent at 30k. This represents the last Allied units that will be committed to this theater for a long, long time (perhaps that's it for the game, if things continue to go well in the DEI).

SWPac: Milne Bay forts to three.

DEI: Troop transports arrive at Toabali and Billiton and aren't molested by the enemy. 4EB continue molesting western Java bases. Transports carrying major reinforcemnts from India to Sumatra are starting to near the final run to Oosthaven. Very soon the Allies will form the transports to take reinforcements to Ketapang and Pontianak on Borneo. Steve can't let this kind of stuff go on, right? He's just reconned Muntok (same island as Toabali) for the firs time, so he's monitoring things.

Have you been monitoring Balikpapan? Or bombing it much? Seems that is his most important lifeline to major fuel and oil right now.

Sumatra: Plentiful IJN sub activity around Oosthaven and the islands to the north. In fact, this has been the situation for months now - it's almost as if Steve is trying to win this campaign by using subs only, which of course won't work. Yesterday, an IJ sub did dud a torp against BB Valiant, which rattled my nerves. But the Allies have alot of ASW operating in the area now (both aircraft and SCs). The toll on Japanese subs has been pretty high. Reinforcement runs to Toboali and Billiton haven't been molested. The first transports carrying troops bound for Ketapang are due at Oosthaven in a day or two. Everything looks good on Sumatra.

Java: Japanese transport TF sighted (and reported by SigInt) just of the SE Java coast. SigInt reports this TF bound for Tjilitjap, which makes no sense whatsoever (why unload at an exposed forward base when you can unload at an rear base and take the trains?). I'm guessing this might be an amphibious force targeting Christmas (IO) Island. Or it might be a feint. The Allies have plenty of capital ships within easy calling distance. I only have a US Army battalion at Christmas, but I won't give the island up without a fight.

NoPac: The Tojos have succeeded in temporarily suppressing Allied fighter activity at Para. I've withddrawn the units to Attu Island to replace losses. A new understrength P-40E unit just arrived at Anchorage.

CenPac: The units finished coming ashore at Tarawa, so the big transport TF will retire (but 40k supply are ashore). A sub claimed another xAK, but this operation has been a success. Tarawa, with 720 AV and five forts, is in good shape.

I've been watching Balikpapan, but no bombing strikes there in months (B-17Ds could hit the base from Sumatra, but the E model can't; I haven't checked the F model yet). Our house rules prevent strategic bombing in SEAC, including the DEI, until 1944, so I can't target enemy oil and refineries. I can do port strikes.

DEI: Massed Japanese bombers suddenly strike the Allied outpost at Muntok, an island base NE (true) of Palembang. These troops have been here for months. Steve just started reconning the base a couple of days ago. I want to ask him (but I won't): "Did you just notice this major developing situation right in your heartland?" Things continue to look good in and around Sumatra as Allied reinforcements continue to move to Toabali (same island as Muntok) and Billiton). IJN transport TF is nearing Tjilitjap, which makes no sense whatsoever. None. Zero. He could just land his troops safely at Soerabaja or Semereng and send them to Tjilitjap by rail. What in the world is he doing? (An Allied CA force is loitering to the south in the event this Japanese TF turns left and makes for Christmas (IO) Island.

NoPac: No sign of imminent IJN counterinvasion.

Billiton Island: More troops comng ashore. Level 2(0) port; 2.49(5) airfield; 3.07 forts; 327 AV; 3275 supply.

Toboali: Level 2(1) port; 1.05(7) airfield; 2.28 forts; 100 AV; 5000 supply. 18 unescorted Bettys raided from Singapore today. LRCAP from Billiton - elite F4% and Hurricane squadrons - soritied and splashed 16. The Bettys sank one xAKL.

Muntok: Level 1(1) port; 1(5) airfield; no forts; 600 supply; 107 AV. 268Mortorized Bde begins coming ashore at Toboali tonight and will report for duty at Muntok. This unit was originally slated for Singkawang, but Steve is suddenly giving a heckuva lot of attention to Muntok. If possible, I'd like to discourage him from even trying to contest Toboali, Muntok and Billiton. High priority airfields at all three. The full slate of Sallys from Singapore (roughly 140) visited the island again. These bombers had been committed to the Padang campaign for months, so their focus on Muntok is meaningful there and at Padang, where forts will now reach four in just a few days.

Singkep: Level 2(1) port; 1(5) airfield; 2.14 forts; 350 supply; 39 AV. I don't think Steve is aware that the Allies have occupied and are building this base right on the outskirts of Singapore. I have only a token force there at the moment, but hope to address that after I first deal with the most pressing needs to the east.

Oosthaven: Another IJN sub savaged by ASW; the third in as many days. More reinforcement convoys in bound.

Sumatra: It does not look like Japan is going to try to conquer Sumatra by moving on Padang and then on to the eastern bases. No meaningful activity around Padang, though two IJA divisions are isolated there. Supply is undoubtedly the problem. If the Allies succeed in building Billiton, Toboali and Muntok large, that will form a new outer defense that will take a bit of the heat off Sumatra. That, in turn, will permit the Allies to begin drawing down the Sumatra garrison to expand further into the DEI. I'm not there yet, but it's not far off.

Java: Western Java appears lightly held by Japan. That mysterious IJ TF bound for Tjilitjap apparently made it there and is retiring. I have no idea. My best guess is that it was testing to see if the Allies reacted. I didn't because I don't want to reveal my strength against a TF that, while vulnerable, didn't appear to be a threat of any kind.

Burma: Allied bombers are daily savaging the enemy garrison at Magwe. Allied units are on the flanks and threatening to sever the supply/retreat path. I am somewhat surprised Steve hasn't either reinforced or retired this army.

NoPac: No sign of imminent enemy counterinvasion yet.

CenPac: A small enemy carrier strike force badly damaged an xAK and an xAP in the TF that recently brought supply and reinforcements to Tarawa. CA Nachi sighted is in a separate combat TF. The Allies are almost certain to lose a number of low-grade transports over the next few days, but whatever happens it was worth the cost to really secure (in my estimation) Tarawa.

The Allies are exposing assets in the DEI. Japan can strike effectively with combat ships. To this point, I think Steve has declined to do so out of fear of further attrition to his capital ships. But he's going to come. He has to. And when he does, the Allies will lose some ships and men, but building the base network north of Sumatra is now my highest priority.
