Thats the idiot´s guide we were using when upgrading to current beta, except the version numbers nothing changes:
ORIGINAL: Admiral DadMan

For those of you running PBEM games, here is a recommended update procedure*:

(Note: v1079 refers to the game Release version and v1084 refers to the Update version. Your current version may vary.)

1) Japanese player resolves latest turn using current version v1079.
2) Japanese player saves game.
3) Japanese player exits game.
4) Japanese player sends combat replay to Allied player.
5) Japanese player upgrades to new version v1084.
6) Japanese player issues orders and advances turn.
7) Japanese player sends turn to Allied player.

8) Allied player plays combat replay under old version v1079.
9) Allied player upgrades to new version v1084.
10) Allied player issues orders and advances turn.
11) Allied player send turn file back to Japanese player.

The key is that orders must be entered using the same version and then the turn resolved with that version i.e.:
-J Orders v1079, A Orders v1079, J Resolve v1079, A Replay v1079;
-Both update to v1084, J Orders v1084, A Orders v1084, etc.

For Japanese players playing multiple PBEM games, what this means is that you will need to collect all of your opponents' turns and run them before updating.

After you run each turn, send off the replay file to the Allied player, and ask him to play the replay under the old version. Once you have resolved all of your PBEM opponents' turns, you can now upgrade.

*Thanks to "Feinder" and "cap_and_gown".

Have fun!

Copying the WITP-AE folder allows you to have multiple installs each running any version you please.

Thanks for the replies.

When I run the Beta exe it asks for a location to install. I assume that is the Witp:AE game folder?
Yes indeed.

Thanks

After many years of reading AAR's as an unregistered lurker, I am now beginning my first pbem and accompanying AAR. I was real worried that I would make a fool of myself at first, but then you 'Old Salt's chimed in with advice. So I now realize that an AAR is a good idea for a newby to pbem, as any bad mistakes will be pointed-out. [:-]

I also enjoy the large amount of activity in this forum, especially the AARs. I expect a further surge of AAR activity if/when the beta goes "official". This game has got great life left in it. It's just getting started.

This game is definitely the best wargame I've ever played, alongside TOAW.
HoI, while not strictly a wargame, it's a clear third for me. What really elevates this game, apart from the addictiveness factor, is this great forum. You will very rarely find this activity in other wargaming forums, in terms of both quantity and quality. TOAW is still a great game by all accounts, but finding a reliable opponent has become exceedingly difficult.

Persoanlly, I think it's because we're so egotistical we all think other people will find the drivel we type interesting.

I agree , and hope that someone from Matrix is reading these comments.

IMVHO what has made WITP and WITPAE succesful is the ability of each person to mod the game which has brought such improvement from vanilla WITP, firstly CHS & RHS & Andrews great maps then daBabes, Big B etc etc have brought this game several levels above the original offerings. (Something which also made TOAW great)

I have a few other Matrix games which cant be edited to these levels which leaves us at the basic game and you are expected to live with the devs actions.

With WITP & AE we have been able to move so far past this plus allow modders to engage in AFB or JFB wet dreams, or move the action into the Med or Atlantic.

I hope Matrix can see the value in continued development of games in this theatre on an improved engine, hopefully in 3-4 years AE II will be hitting the airwaves.

I don't know...I would love a game of the entire globe with this game engine and functionality, OOB detail and programmer support.
Although, I would never have the time to complete one game. [:D] I don't get much play time. I'm still on my first WITPAE game. I bought it upon release and am in Sep. 1942. Not far along at all. Love it though. I play no other games! Again, not much play time.
Can't wait for my Hellcats though!

So you'll get the Hellcats in about 2015-6??

Unfortunately land combat isnt one of AE's greatest parts. Works OK in island combat but isnt too great when larger forces fight on land.

I expect your "Global War" game out for my retirement.

WIF - if it's ever released may fill some of that promise...

I would have liked 2By3 to have worked on Carrier Strike as it might have fired up GG to think about WITPII but they seem content with working on WarInTheWest and then combining East and West into a mega title (details might be inaccurate & scuttlebutt). Actually while I really have enjoyed playing GG games over the years, maybe it is best that he doesn't...

Jeff while I'd love to be proven wrong, 3-4 years might be a bit optimistic for a re-release.
Maybe this is as good as it will ever get for the PTO. Good things never age ... If only I could get my girlfriend to realise this.

I only hope that if I'm still around in 10years - I've released a Carrier Strike variant for you all to enjoy. HPS Midway or CAW just doesn't do it as well as it could be done. Of course, playing this monster does stop that project progressing somewhat.

Cheers
