Very Small Raids??

Post by Capt Cliff »

Is there any way to stop these very small raids, say 3 to 4 planes, short of micromanagement. Nine times out of ten they get slaughtered by the CAP. Nice to have a minimum raid number say 10 planes for bombers and 2 planes or 4 for escorts.

Stand the squadrons down until they have sufficient available numbers (not damaged or in maintenance) to ensure viable raid sizes.

One thing to also think about and that is air coordination .. [you know that HansBolter but I am framing it for the orginal poster ] let's us say we have three 8 plane units to do an extended range bombing mission . it is quite possible depending on leadership and die rolls that 1 or 2 units fail the die roll .. then there are the overstacking / under supply / not big enough airfield for the unit penalties and it is quite possible for a 24 plane raid to be reduced to 4 or so planes ... The game has incredible details that punshes a lack of attention to detail ..

Then there is the night .. here depending on beta release and moonlight it is quite probable that a 50 plane raid is reduced into multiple 4 - 8 plane raids each enduring CAP and Flak ...

Thanks Hans and Ace but it's still micromanagement. To have to go through every squadron is tedious. A minimum number for bomber and fighters should be available, altered at the squadron level. Like in a contested area, like The Canal, everything with wings and can fly does fly. The main problem is the 2nd or 3rd raid of the day that puts up 2 to 3 bombers and maybe some fighters ... sometime only 1. Fighters should only fly in pairs. It would be nice to have such an option.

Capt Cliff, if it helps, I suggest not to view it as separate raids, but as package seperated from the main formation for whatever reasons
(e.g. CAP, target, visibility). The behaviour is pretty difficult to stop, but its a nice abstraction of RL situations.
