Shock and Guards Armies and Morale

Post by mmarquo »

I beleive that the morale rules works as follows:

Soviet non-guards units that are directly attached to a Guards Army HQ will receive a five point bonus to their national morale.
Shock Army HQs do not provide a morale benefit to guards units.

Shock Armies provide their +5 bonus for non-guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus. Guards Armies provide their +5 bonus for Guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus.

Guard units get a 10+ morale bonus

Does this mean that guards units get no benefit from being attached to a Shock Army or Guards Army? So, these armies should be filled out with non-Guards units?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that guards units do receive an additional benefit from guards armies. It is shock armies only that are restricted to non guards.

maybe "speciality" bonus is meant for cavalry, mech units which have one such bonus, guards infantry wouldnt have it so they would get the guards army bonus. Not sure if I'm stating or asking :)

I was told this:

Fill Shock Armies with Regular Infantry and Artillery Only

Fill Guards with Guard or Regular Infantry and Artillery

Units with Specialty bonuses should attach to Regular Armies (or tank armies)

Correct?

The exact verbage from the rules: "Guards Armies provide their +5 bonus for Guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus."

And I do not know how to check this, but the guards units already get a 10+ specialty bonus for being guards. Anyway of knowing for sure?

Thanks,

Mark

Perhaps in reference to the specialty bonus for mobile units?

Hello
Maybe this helps:

V1.05.18 – September 6, 2011
19) Changes to Morale Rules

a. The following units receive bonuses to their National Morale: All Cavalry, Mountain Airborne and Air Landing units, and Axis Allied motorized units +5, German Motorized Units +10, Soviet Motorized Units (from Sept 1942-August 1943) +5, Soviet Motorized Units (Sept 1943-end of war) +10.

f. Shock Armies provide their +5 bonus for non-guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus. Guards Armies provide their +5 bonus for Guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus.

and...
Helpless

Shock army will provide +5 bonus for the non guards units which didn't get speciality bonus (rifle units), guards armies provide +5 bonus for the guards units which didn't get speciality bonus.

I can go in more details, but there are thoughts to drop Army HQ morale bonus and substitute it with supply/replacement bonuses.

Thanks, Omat. Now, what are MTZ units....all mech/mtz inf and armor, or only mtz inf units? I suspect the former.

Hello

As far as I know Motorized Units are:

- Tank units
- mechanized units
- motorized Units (Inf, stug, td, etc)

Maybe look at Helpless answerer here (post Nr. 3)
