Is a demo available?

If not, are there any freeware games that are similar?

Sorry - No demo available :(

If you are looking for a free game, check Pacific war - a Matrix Edition. Steep learning curb but great gameplay :)

Not really looking for a free game, just want to test the water a little before I buy as I've never played a game similar to this one. PTO for supernintendo is the closest I've gotten, and I really did like that game, although it was a little silly.

The AARs on this BBS are great and make me want to outdo the commanders we have here. But I've been suckered in before on other games.... great AARs, boring game.

I'll probably buy UV. I've used this matrix BBS so much I feel I owe Matrix at least a purchase or 2.

I will dl the Pacific game tonight if I can find it. Thanks for the info.

Just look at the dowload section of the Matrix website and look for Pacific war : Matrix edition.

Nope...not me at least. To be honest, I'm not really sure HOW to use it, or how it will help if I did.

The game also has allows you to set the turn cycle from 1day to 7 days. Great idea if you want to play a quick campaign. However anything above 1-2 days actually makes the game slower.

There is a fair deal (too much) of micromangement. But other than that it's a great game. Lots of depth... which means it's historical, accurate and.... slow. Imersing, but good to play if you have 2-3 hours to spare and your mental facilities are well rested. Not if you're looking for that half n hour of adrenaline.

PacWar is unplayable. Don't base your impression of that game on this. UV is a lot easier & more intutive (esp. if you read his forum).

Why not see who lives close to you and pop around for a look?

Actually, I think a "demo" that included only the Coral Sea battle, and no PBEM ability might not be that bad of an idea. The wrinkle is that UV is a very large game, and the download would be considerable.

ChickenSalad,

I would just recommend going and buying the game. How many posts have you seen here that say that it was a mistake purchasing this game?

I have games in my possession where the naysayers on the gameboards are louder than the fanboys but I have rarely heard anyone say anything negative about this game.
