It's surprising that Japs have built up lv7 forts there. If we can keep up the attrition we should be able to take Portland Roads by the current forces.

RE: George in action since 12/42!!!
In India, over 600,000 Jap troops are marching towards Karachi. They are covered by tons of AA's and even a level bombing at 20,000 ft will cause Allies 10-20 bombers each turn. Very costly to bomb them right now. And we don't have many bombers producing right now.

CenPAC
Operation Galvanic
On Mar 28, 43, two US subs was lost to supreme air ASW force near Tokyo Bay. And my experience in NZ campaign told me that this kind of ASW power can only be delivered by KB. And Jap capital ships are planning to have a major upgrade at Apr, 43.
Based on those intelligence I draw the conclusion that KB returned to Tokyo to upgrade and won't be operational for the next whole month.
So I jump started my long prepared Operation Galvanic.
Starting from beginning of Apr, I launched the Northeastern Australia Campaign to draw Japs attention and tried to destroyed Jap fighters as many as possible at all cost. This is a feint though. And I successfully draw Japs' attention. Most of the fighters on CenPAC islands were transferred to the Port Moresby Area.
It took me 2 weeks to get everything in place, still not fully ready yet, but we can't afford to wait any longer.
So today, my 4 fleet carriers(Lexington, Enterprise, Wasp and Illustrious) and 10 CVEs, total 500 AC Jump into Gilbert Islands and shut down Makin lv4 airfield.

USMC 2nd Division, which was eliminated in Noumea 4 months ago, has reached its full strength and 100 prepared for the largest atoll among Gilbert Islands, the Tabiteuea.(5(3) airfield. 0(1) port, 60,000 garrison limit. Perfect for a hub base in CenPAC)
Together with US 24th Division, we took Tabiteuea in one day bloody fight. Over 6,000 Japs were killed in this short battle. And about 40 Georges were torched while we took the airfield.

The whole amphibious attack was a total success except one thing...
Our minelayers come in one day early than plan and laid some mines before the action. And 4 US DD were sunk, 5 more heavily damaged, and BB Massachusetts and BB Washington also moderately damged and need some yard time.

He used about 400 fighters to LRCAP from 6 hexes away but LRCAP still works really well I would say.
