Intra-Turn Saves - PLEASE VIC! :-)

Post by danf@dataforge.on.ca »

Hi Guys / Vic,

One thing I would really like, is intra-game mutliplayer saves. I like to play on XX-Large or Higher with a buddy, but I have had to stop because I just don't have time to finish the round in one sitting. So that's pretty scarey after 3-4 hours if the computer reboots. Can this be done? Thanks.

Just play with PBEM cheat off, and you can.

The whole idea behind PBEM cheat option is that you can´t save, because then you could reload again after doing something bad, and do over, until you got the results you want.

Afraid there really isn´t any loophole disallowing the possible cheating, while allowing people to save and reload later.

If I understand this correctly the problem with intra-turn saves is that people are able to do stuff after saving.
The obvious solution would be to force people out of the match after saving (of course only if PBEM-anticheat is activated).
Since this is so obvious and it hadn't been done yet I'm wondering where the weak point is... [&:]

One could come up with the point that the player could save, load again and do stuff then quit and reload.
However this is possible without intra-turn saves too. To prevent this exploit at the moment we got the anti-cheat message "Player xyz has opened turn ?? a second time." (something similiar at least).
I reckon this could be changed to "Player xyz has opened a saved game for turn ?? a second time."; so that opening the SAME FILE twice will ring the bells of the anti-cheat system.

Please enlighten me. [&o]

PBEM cheat protection is an option in the start up menu.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.
