Atlanta Class me thinks. Can't tell which one though.

No, I think those are 5"/38 in single mounts. I believe that is a Bagley Class DD

No, those are twin 5" mounts. I wish we could see behind that officer to see if the wing mounts are there.

Atlanta's has that row of distinctive round bridge portholes and tons of radar and antenna's. Might be the Atlanta. I believe she was built in Brooklyn (I can see the yard from work). Can't believe they sent these guys into knife fights in the slot, barley looks bigger than a destroyer. Guess you sent what you had

Atlanta I think. Built in Kearny, NJ. Fitted out and commissioned in Brooklyn.

Take a closer look. #3 5inch turret is rotated around so that it looks like a director.

If it's the ATLANTA, then where is the 3rd forward twin turret? I think it more likely a SUMNER class DD.

Probably he's still fuming with rage over Pearl Harbor.
Atlanta was the first USN warship commissioned after the attack.
IMO the most beautiful ship class of the era.

Agreed with AW1Steve here about turret 3... The probable reason for this position; is for barrel cleaning (A good-old pull though). [;)]

There is a steam powered crane from behind him. And from the blackness of the smoke, I'll bet that it's coal fired.

You're right. I suppose his cover (What we former and current Naval types call a hat) could be on fire. [:D]

Notice the Admiral and his flag Lt. (with his cover poetentially on fire) . And the censor removing the RADAR from the picture.

I also notice that the flag Lt. has moved from his traditional formation position into the lead, presumably to detect treacherous ice conditions for his Admiral.
