Land Combat - resupply?

Post by pjavete »

Just a quick Q here:
- I've looked at the manual and briefly at the FAQs here... nothing on this so far... -
Does the game resupply units overland through non-road hexsides?
If so, are there reductions in supply provided?
How do you know who controls a hexside?
What about LCUs that are surrounded and under enemy CAP superiority? Supply?
Just trying to get a handle on which way is best to cut supply, surround units and eliminate them in detail.
Thanks,
Paul

Quick answer is yes, LCU's are capable of being supplied overland through non-road hexsides (as long as they own those hexsides).  A hexside changes hands when a unit crosses that hexside. When attempting to supply outside of a friendly base, the game attempts to trace a supply route to that LCU that has the lowest supply cost. Each type of hex has a specific supply cost - where there is a road connection between hexes the supply cost is much lower. For example, a jungle hex with no road has a supply cost of 20. If that jungle hex has a secondary road, the supply cost drops to 5. The implication is that if an LCU is more than five hexes from a friendly base in non-road jungle hexes, they can't be supplied from there. However, if there is a secondary road, the distance increases to twenty hexes. To put it simply, each overland supply route has a value determined by subtracting the supply costs of the hexes on the route from 100. The supply cost also ties into how much supply reaches the LCU (actually, more correctly, how often they are supplied).  If the overland supply route value is 89-100, the unit receives supplies four times per week. If the overland supply route value is 49-88, the unit receives supplies two times per week. Anything lower, and they only receive supplies once a week (as long as the value is higher than 0). If you defeat an enemy LCU in a hex, they will attempt to retreat - they can only retreat through a hexside that they own. As long as you own all the hexsides, the unit is considered surrounded, even if all your LCUs are in the same hex as the enemy LCUs. By the same token, if you own all six hexsides, your opponent cannot supply his LCUs via an overland route. Bear in mind that if your opponent has air superiority he can however airdrop supplies.

Thanks CT, That helps with planning.
Since it's HexSIDES not the hexes themselves, it would sure help to know hexside ownership, especially when planning forced retreat routes.
Any way to get the UI to display this vital information (hexside ownership)?

Paul

w = display hex/hexside ownership
5 = displays supply path
