Three USN CVTF raid Lunga to find only two MGB TFs there - rats. I did manage to shoot down a Mavis and an Elf. The USN withdraws back towards the New Hebrides at flank speed. I have a strong suspicion the IJN CVs are up at Truk. No need to challenge them at this point. CV Wasp has departed the Canal Zone for the SoPac. Saratoga and Yorktown are about half way across the Gulf of Alaska escorting a large BF into Unmak island. Once that unit arries, I can base fighters at Unmak releasing the carriers for other duties.
On Java, the IJA ID that had been heading towards Batavia has suddenly turned south Towards Titlijap (SP?). Soerabaja is not yet besiegeed but the 48th ID took Medioen this turn.
In Burma, the RAF whacks the growing stack at Magwe again. The base will fall soon, but I have definitely excised my pound of flesh. I am trying to get some supplies into the stack trapped NE of Prome. They will either die there or fight their way out. They have a 2:1 base AV advantage but with nearly 0 supplies.
The IJAAF has been pounding the retreating units from the Chuhsien battle. While the damage is not insignificant, the biggest issue is the constant resetting of the move order to combat. This is really slowing down the escape.

Things may be looking up in Burma. The Imp Guards C unit shock attacked the Rangoon Refugees this turn. Did not go well for the IJA
Japanese ground losses:
1058 casualties reported
Squads: 8 destroyed, 105 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Guns lost 8 (1 destroyed, 7 disabled)
Allied ground losses:
72 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
I order a counter attack this turn. There is another IJA unit moving up from the south. This may be my one and only chance to break out. If I can push the IJA back just long enough to open the road to Akyab, I will be most pleased
The RAF continues to rip the IAJ stack at Magwe apart. Pilot training for the win as all these groups just sat up north and trained trained trained. Now with skill levels in the 70s, they are killers. For example:
Japanese ground losses:
Guns lost 24 (20 destroyed, 4 disabled)
Vehicles lost 29 (19 destroyed, 10 disabled)
SS Porpoise is roughed up SE of Singers. She may not make it as damage is SYS 24 FLOT 47 (38 major)
Soerabaja is invested by 7 units now. Base will likely fall quickly.
In China, the trailing group of KMT units was finally caught by the IJA. They are forced SW away from Nanchang and will now head west towards Kasien. It did cost the IAJ 2400 casualties. The rest of the group is almost away. Map shows the area with IJA unit counts in each hex marked.

Bah. My attack near Prome just missed 1 to 1 with the Allies taking 700 casualties to 150 for Japan. Looks like that stack will die there.
Little else to report.
Did the combat introduction of the ProtoJugg, the P-43 in China. One Ki-43 was damaged.

Well that was interesting.
A SCTF showed up and sank a small TF with an xAKL and PC at Ramree Island. No biggie. Inland the noose is tightening around the Rangoon Refugees as two additional units are approaching from the south. Two IJA units are now at Meiktila with 3 more approaching. Magwe continues to hold.
First deliberate attack at Soerobaja is a solid 2 to 1 with near equal casualties but a disproportionate number of Allied losses being in the destroyed vs disabled category. Larry dropped more paras at Sibolga. That attack came off at 1 to 2. The refugess from Sabang are only one hex out.
Lastly Dutch B-25s made a long range attack on a convoy two hexes due east of Singers. Wow, didn't know they could reach that far.
Units are now moving on Changsha from the NE. I may pull the large stack just over the river from Nanchang back a bit. I don't want to lose those units so far forward. I have three "New Divisions" fully rebuilt at Chungking. I think it is time to move them to the front lines. My concern is that the huge stack that had been moving on Sian has disappeared. There is a lot of Japanese firepower that could be concentrated at one point if Larry so desires.

Excellent AAR!
RE: Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then
16 June 1942
Action heats up. Soerabaja suffers its second deliberate attack which came off at 1 to 2 but both reduced the forts and destroyed 45 Allied combat squads. Titlijab suffers the same fate but here the attack comes off 1 to 4 and hurts the IJA far worse even though forts still drop. There are Ki-43c based at Medioen now which is hampering my efforts to interfere now. A fourth wave of transports has arrived at Semerang.
The intrepid defenders at Magwe are finally routed. Weather prohibited sufficient suppression by the RAF over the past two turns. Five IJA units are at Meiktila plus four more one hex out. Add in the three at Magwe and the IJA is finally pressing home its attack.
I am moving some BF and a few strong Infantry units to better be able to defend Changsha. So far just one unit coming down for the NE. IJA seems to be moving towards a river crossing just west of Nanchang.
Av support arrives at Unmak Island. A Sep Inf RGT plus the one Mountain RGT have been bought out to reinforce this position. In addition all the free units in the Gulf of Alaska are being picked up and moved forward.
Huge convoy with a big pile of SeaBeas is leaving SD. Aircraft are about a week out of Noumea which has a level 3.5 AB.
Both the 32nd and 41st ID have arrived at Oz. The will protect Cairns and Townsville for now.

There are now all or a portion of three ID in the hex with the Rangoon Refugees. Handwriting on the wall so they say. There are now five units at Meiktila and eight units in the hex immediately south. It does not appear that Monsoon is having any effect here. One place where the game truly falls short as combat operations in Burma were only possible for seven months of the year at best.
SS Flying Fish sinks an xAK off Shikuku. SS Herring takes a short at CA Furatuka off Shortlands with dud torpedoes. I think my opponent may be trying to bait me into another CV raid. That's just a bit too obvious don't you think?
The last unit that retreated from Padang is destroyed today.
Everybody else holds today
A bunch of BS with 2-3 B-17E witdraw from the WCUSA today suddenly filling my pool with 50+ airframes. While I still need to be cautious, a lot of B-18 units will finally get new airframes

Some how I managed to hold Soerobaja this turn. Results were ugly. It will surely fall at the next attack. Some of the Dutch bombers made it through the CAP but did not hit anything. Just BOMB attack at Tilijap
Meiktila fell. The large stack NE of Prome smacked the Rangoon Rufugees with a pretty devasting Shock Attack. Again, likley about to fall apart here. I am wondering how far Larry will push from here once the rest of Burma falls. I have already started building the Assam and Bengal regions.
A USN fleet baot took a shot at a SCTF near Rabaul. This is a different one than the one attacked yesterday. Larry seems to be concentrating his power in this region now. I have lots of S-Boats guarding the approaches to PM, Milne Bay, and the New Hebrides
Things in China are becoming precarious. The large stack that took Chuhsien is not going to cross opposite Nanchang. Instead it is moving to flank me to the south. The force covering the river breaks for Changsha. Hopefully it be able to get into a blocking position before the IJA arrives. I released the three rebuilt "New" Divisions. This will add 750 AS to the defenses in Central China. I have about 4000 AS in north central China. If this offensive continues to materialize, I may need to make a spoiling attack in that region. Also, cursor intel says only one unit at Canton. Unfortunately the Chinese have no RECON assets. Maybe I'll send the RAF unit training at Calcutta this way just to verify that fact. If true, even a half hearted effort would make Larry have to break off and deal with a threat against an important base like that one.

Addendum to 18 June post: Japanese troops coming ashore at both Bacolod and Zamboanga on that turn
19 June 1942
Soerobaja falls. Lasted longer than I thought. I still think it will take Larry a while to clear all of Java. My guess is the better part of a month but I could be wrong.
Lead Chinese units make 30 miles on the first day. Barring a disaster, they should be able to cover my flank before the IJA can arrive.
KXV torpedos an xAK off Rangoon. Combat report indicated troop loss. I am beginning to wonder if I may see a overland invasion of India more and more.
Tojos appear in numbers for the first time. Two are shot down offset by 4 P-40E. Not a good ratio but there are not the Uber fighter I feared. They appear to be based at magwe. I want to hit the IJA for another turn but I think I will turn my bombers loose on the AB soon. Also, I have one sq of P-38E. They will tangle with the Ki-44 to see what that brings.
The convoy with a/c for Noumea will arrive in two to three turns under CV escort.

SS KXII sinks an AK in the Java Sea. Nice to see one of those rare types go down. The rest of the DEI is at a standstill as the IJA moves up to the next set of bases.
Little action in China other than the requisite aerial bombardments. Forgot to mention that I did see my first Helen a couple of turns ago.
The TF with the a/c for Noumea will come up one hex short of arriving next turn. Air search has already detected two IJN subs in the area. Also, the TF got overflown by a Glen so Larry knows where this group of TF is and likely where its going.
Lastly, Mandalay now has IJA units present. Also, I found an answer for the Ki-44's introduction. Mr. Tojo meet Mr. Lockheed. ATA losses were 3 Ki-44 and no Allied fighters lost over Burma

Larry pulled his Tojos out of Magwe. I whacked the base anyway. Rangoon Refugees suffer another Shock Attack but still resist
No movement on Java but Larry drops another Para unit on Sibolga. The attack came off at 1 to 4 but without much in terms of casualties. The Sabang forces are almost there.
A/C start unloading at Noumea. This is going to take a while as the port is not yet built up.
Other than that, it was kinda ho-hum

Both Zamboanga and Bacolod fall this turn. That leaves but four bases in the PI that have not fallen. Two of the remaining bases are unoccupied.
Still little movement on Java. Not sure what is going on here.
A I-boat sank an xAK off Perth today. Larry asked me if all the MS sinkings had impeded my ability to move supplies. Lets see, I have 1.2 million at Auckland and probably twice that spread around Oz. So, no.
Mandalay held against the first Deliberate Attack. Well, shut my mouth. Won't stand for long I can assure you that. Still the RAF bombers are kicking the snot out of the IJA.
The stack moving to Henyang moves south of Changsha. As it passes it sees four IJA units in the dot base two hexes south of Changsha. Its still a race but I think I will win as I am moving towards my supplies and Larry is moving away.
All the a/c are unloaded at Noumea. To my surprise one of the VMSB units upgrades to F4F-4. Huh??? Actually for the best as far as I am concerned. US CVTF will retire to Auckland so as to upgrade their VTs to TBF.

Lahat falls and the Dutch still don't surrender. Larry has been chasing this stack around aouthern Sumatra for a month.
Mandalay does fall. I was letting comanders pick targets on bomb attack - bad idea. The Wellington sq went all the way to Pegu and was literally destroyed by fighters there. Issue has been fixed but it will take a while to build that unit back.
AD Dixie was torpedoed one hext from Noumea. Grrrr. I was really conunting on that ship's ability to replenish my DDs.
Chinese continue to race past the advancing IJA near Hengyang.

Well Both KXVII and O21 sank an xAK at the north end of the Straits of Malacca. No troop losses so I suspect they either were empty or had supplies.
SigInt was actually helpful today as AV support is on its way to Port Blair and an Inf RGT is heading to Sibolga.
I lost AD Dixie off Noumea. May need to move some of the support ships at PH down to the SoPac
PT Boats are now based at Midway. I will activate some more at Noumea next turn - I was waiting on Fuel. AGP present at both bases.
Three IJA units are now present in the Hex SE of Hengyang. I think the KMT should get in place before they force the river. I have some small units I can slip behind the Japanese to disrupt the supplie flow.
Wasp is heading to Auckland. Saratoga and Yorktown are returning to SF from their NoPac duties.
I think I need to establish a base in the Penrang (Sp?) Is area or Jarvis to provide some NavSearch. There is not a gap but I am a little weak there. I will establish a new refeuling base behind that base to replace Hia Oa. This should shave show time off the transit.
No action on Java but Larry is now using Soerobaja's larger port so I need to reroute some subs

One Ind BGD was destroyed in the stack of Rangoon Refugees. The rest hold. Waiting for the attack at Shwebo with should be any turn now
The race is still on in China. It is going to be close
Enterprise and Hornet join Lexington with TBF upgrades. The remaining three still have TBDs. I only have enough to equip one VT right now. I think I will wait for Wasp to make Auckland. The pool can rebuild while the other two make their way south

The Rangoon Rufugees were destroyed over these two turns. Now I will wait to see how far Larry intends to push. Will he try to make his way into India over land?
I won the race in China. Henyang now has a base AS of 750 behind 1.5 forts. The units will be kept in Combate Mode until I am sure of Japanese intentions. I have an additional 750 AS being railed into Henyang. That will give that base 1500, Changsha 4000, and an additional 3400 at or near Ichang. At present the IJA stack appears to be turning south towards Kahnsien (Sp?). I may move one of the weaker KMT units down from Changsha to cut this stack off if it moves too far south.
There is an IJN TF near Woodlark Isand. Cursor intel suggests this is a fast transport or SCTF. USN CVTF have left NZ and will park bewteen Oz and Rousel Island just in case. CV Wasp is directly south of the Society Islands. Two CVTF make SF this next turn and will head south.
RN CVTF with CVL Hermes is attacked by a Ro-Boat near Exmouth. The TT missed and the sub was Heavily Damaged. Unfortunately, their location is now known. Will reroute both TF to the west. Was trying to sneak them up for a raid on Japanese shipping off Java.

There is a SCTF and some sort of Convoy just SW of Deboyne Island. My CVTF are 200 nm SSE of Norfolk Island. Perhaps I can catch them on the way out
My previous post said the IJA was breaking south towards Kanhsien. I was incorrect, they are heading to Kukong. A KMT Corps has arrived at Anking. I have a 2:1 base AV advantage but no supplies. Well at least Larry will have to divert some forces to deal with them.
I had an S-Boat fire duds at a DD south of Rabaul. I had failed to reroute a convoy heading to Hiva Oa. This cost me an xAK. I think this is not necessarily a bad thing as I was afraid he would reposition his subs after a long dry spell. Hopefully this will be enough bait for him to stay where he has those subs for a while.
Oh, I had a collision. Could not find it on the Ops report but you can see the damage. The AO I can stand to be without for a while. I really need the AE

Shwebo falls. Lashio is occupied. Burma is about wrapped up. Larry and I had a discussion about Monsoon. The game really fails to limit combat operations the way it should.
The IJA is landing an INF RGT at Sibolga. I was hoping my RN CVTF would make it up there in time but alas no. They are west of Java at the moment and will return to Ceylon via a circuitous route to avoid any IJN entanglements.
The two TF are one hex out of PM. I only had one sub attack and it missed. My CVTF are 80 NM NE of Norfolk Island. They may be able to make it in time to catch the Japanese on the return leg. Just depends how quickly they unload. No sign of IJN carrier activity.
The stack south of Hengyang is no only one unit in size. The rest have scooted south. Wonder what Larry left behind. May do some recon by air to see. The one AVG sq left in China is sent to Changsha. It will withdraw in four turns. Last hurrah so they say

IJA 4th ID does a Deliberate attack at Malang coming off at 2 to 1. Rowboat Corps takes Loemadjang (Sp?) to the rear of the KNIL even though the Japanese have no units behind them. This seems like an odd move by the AI. Units about done unloading at Sibolga. Suspect it will take a few turns for disruption to fall.
The US CVTF launch a small SBD raid near Koumac hitting a AMC with a 1000lb bomb. While the IJN ship is likely a goner. My carriers position is now revealed. GRRR. I jog my CVs toward Brisbane for now. CV Wasp is about four or five turns out of Auckland. I don't want to be lured into a trap here. Changed my Air Search to look more west and NW of Noumea. If the IJN CVs are lurking out there, perhaps I can draw them towards either Noumea or Brisbane where there is stout fighter support.
China is interesting. I know this map is cluttered. I hit the "W" key and you can see the results. Keep in mind at least thre IJA units headed south down the rail line towards Kukong a few days ago. I am going to halt the two Corps and HQ retreating from Chuhsien at the indicated hex. Once the three ID arrive at Hengyang, I will send a blocking force to the SE. I am also diverting south AS from Changsha to block a flanking maneuver across the river west of Hengyang. This maneuver shoudl isolate the IJA units west of my proposed blocking line. Larry will have to displace my units to reopen his supply lines. Very historical as far as how the KMT actually fought in WWII.
(Edit: white numbers are IJA units counts)
