CT: Absolutely. African mahogany was extremely widely used during the early 20th century, and was inexpensive. Its durability and workability was perfect for the PT boat and the DeHavilland Mosquito (forms for the balsa/birch skin). The large size of the trees allowed for large sheets to be cut for plywood construction which was used for the PT and Higgins boats. Remember, there was no push for "sustainable forestry back then, so mahogany trees were felled by the square mile.
