A6M3... how many to build?

Post by frankycee »

Hi guys

How many squadrions will I need to fill with A6M3s...did I miss something or can I NOT convert A6M2s to A6M3s, even the land-based squadrons?

Seems like very little squadrons can actually fly that version now...maybe one or 2...I'm in June 1942...

I thought any IJN fighter squadron could convert to any IJN fighter type...

Thoughts?

PDU is off(?)...I can change production and change plane types at will.

I know that the A6M3 is CV capable, but I was thinking of using it for my land based squadrons...

Scenario 2

Sounds like PDU is ON

A6M3 is NOT CV capable
Scenario 2
OK ... so I'd say only your land based naval fighters are able to do this conversion.

If you can upgrade aircraft practically at will, then PDU is On.

And the M3 does not upgrade directly from the M2, it has its own research path so your M2 factories will not switch over to the M3.

Your M3 factories can and will upgrade to future models though, including carrier capable ones.

Oh and the M3 is NOT CV capable, but can be used for land-based squadrons just fine.

Only two squadrons can upgrade to the A6M3 and I think that one of them goes away. So don't build too many. Maybe 60 at most.

As far as I know, all A6M2 groups can upgrade to A6M3a (please note the 'a' suffix). The A6M3 (please note no suffix) has limited value in this game with PDU on.

I made the mistake of misunderstanding the production (A6M2 production factory does not upgrade to A6M3a production, but A6M3 goes to A6M3a/A65...) and overproducing the A6M3 in my game. Oops. Lesson learned.

The A6M3 is one of those that is important to research down the research path, but not very important to produce. A6M3a is important to produce in quantity, however.

For me A6M3 is only important as step to repair all A6M3 R&D factories asap and move them to M3a.
First job for Zeros is CV duty and you should focus on M3a model. M3a will be your main CV model for first half of `43 until M5 arrive

On your place i will not produce big numbers of them only to fill ground squadrons and upgraded asap as M3a arrive.
(remember you will need produce M2 model to have reserves for your CV squadrons until M3a).

Well if you're using NOT using realistic R&D you should change those fully repaired factories straight away to R&D the M3a
