Tentative map mod

Post by Redmarkus5 »

Just messing around with the map files as I want something less like Google Maps and more akin to a WW2 controller's plotting table.

Any comments? I find that it makes the icons much easier to see.

The coastline follows that of the original graphic to ensure that none of the buildings end up in the 'sea' but it does look a bit strange. This is down to the fact that the stock game map was not accurately drawn.

If anyone wants this, I will make a full mod.

Your map save my eyes, if you go on, I'm in. I like graphics mods for this game.

well, I found the map! tm.asp?m=2262466 ,but your
is darkest, in my opinion is better for my eyes.

I agree. It does make it easier to see the airfield icons and mission plots.

Building on top of the other BTR map mod, I have added:

- Country names
- Seas
- New shade of green for Neutral nations

I am thinking about playing around with the icons for strike packages. My main issue is with the very limited screen resolution and the fact that the devs seem to have forgotten this game and moved on. No editor????

This is a great game engine. It deserves more support from devs and Matrix fans alike.

Adding an a-historical road/rail net and a fictional Lat/Long set of grid lines to make the map look a bit more like, well, a map :)

Hopefully not too cluttered?

The new map in action. The road net isn't seamless as there are 55 map files (almost as many as WitE and an unnecessary number, IMO).

If anyone wants to use it, you can DL it here for the next few weeks: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/Map%20Mod_Rail.zip

Unzip, then paste the files into your C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to the Bombing of the Reich\DAT\ART\MapArt folder, assuming you installed to the default location.

Make sure to backup your original files first!

If enough people are interested, I will think about doing a more sophisticated version of the mod to get all the rail lines to join up correctly and perhaps add more towns and cities, as half of Europe is missing at the moment.

Roen => Rouen

Nice color combinations. It's desirable to make the raid and target graphics stand out.

Will look at that - the city names were mostly in the original BTR mod.

Here's a new loading screen for you...

Put it in your ART folder

Well, Carnage wants a PBEM game against me - Eagle Day, so I decided to do a hasty mod of that map as well. BC - feel free to improve on this, as I know you will.

I'm not sure about the grid idea. Comments anyone?

I will stick this in Dropbox once I'm done. Maybe tonight.

Added Group boundaries (somewhat approximate) for flavoor and a few other bits here and there. There are a number of issues with the underlying maps which I can't address and the screen resolution remains a real problem. Anyway, if you like this mod you can download it here:

All comments or suggestions welcome.
