New WitE Public Beta 1.06.03 Now Available!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

I think the misunderstanding is cavalry is thinking this refers to enemy units. it does not.

Yes it's for friendly routed or non-combat units that you mistakenly placed nearby an enemy combat unit (often by moving a combat unit out of the stack). They will displace in the next logistic phase if not moved away.
This does not apply to enemy combat unit retreatments that end up next to any of your non-combat units - they will displace just like in earlier versions.

Oh I see... thanks for clarifying

i still hate the idea of routed units transplanting themselves - still does not feel right but that is the way it is.

I started playing WitE again because of the patches. With happiness. I will keep on playing if they keep on patching and fixing the game.

Same here. Nothing beats the smell of fresh warm patches in the morning!

seriously, this much dedicated support is much appreciated.

New Features and Rule Changes 1. New Feature - Added ground element replacement information into the Event log. It is sorted by ground element class and type as in the production screen.

+1.....[&o][&o][&o][&o][&o] Just love that![:)]

Love the additional data in the turn event log.

Question - under what conditions result in TOE Elements being return to the national pool?

If the updates are coming fast and we miss one like 1.06.00, can we just move on and use 1.06.03? I searched for 1.06.00 before applying 1.06.03 but was unable to find anything. I also searched around for an answer to my question in the freq asked questions but cant seem to find anything.

thanks

All official Beta or final patch releases are cumulative, they contain fixes from the previous versions. In most cases they also contain some updates to the manual (the US letter version)
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

I've a number of games going, one of which, a PBEM, begun a couple of patches ago, the last to introduce a load of data changes for aircraft amongst other things. Using the same install for all games I've consistantly noticed that this game takes an extraordinary amount of time to reassign units between HQs, at least 30 seconds each unit. My old PBEMs and a solo game remain unaffected.

I just started a solo game after applying the patch and I am seeing the same thing. I restarted the game since it was still early enough to not be emotionally invested but the same issue crept up. That is, whenever I assign an SU to another HQ it takes a looong time - at least 10 seconds I believe. I did the usual - reboot, ended unwanted or unneeded processes, etc.. and like I said I restarted the game. I havent checked the event logs to see if Win 7 is logging any performance issues. If I find anything I will post. I can roll-back the patch, if all else fails.

Its not a deal-breaker for me because I love the game. But it is a weird issue that suddenly appeared with the latest patch.

This long delay also happened to me with the 1.06B....then after I shut the computer down for the night and started the next day the delay disappeared, and hasn't returned.  ( Still using 1.06B )

A new version of the EXE should be coming out soon. If it still happens after that then please bug report it in the Tech Support forum.

So I just got this game and after a week of reading the forums, the manual, and playing a few short scenarios I'm hooked. Awesome game. I just finished the Smolensk scenario and am wondering If it is wise to start my first GC with 1.06.03. Will it mess up my game if I upload the next patch when it becomes available?

There are no data changes with the soon to be released 1.06.04, so there's no reason you can't start. There is a nasty Soviet AI bug that's fixed in 1.06.04 so you'll want to get that as soon as it's available (could be sometime today), but no reason you can't save, update, and then continue on with your game.
