I went hurray! Then oh no! Then hurray!

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

I went hurray! Then oh no! Then hurray!

Post by wodin »

I saw that it had it's own forum and a product page..hurray!

I saw the screen shots of rather poor inf and tanks in 3D..I went OH NO!

I then expanded the screenshots to see some more..I saw the beautiful counters I went..HURRAY!

Perfect counters and a 3D map. Why some wargamers want those inf and tank graphics I've no idea when the game has counters this lovely. To me it was a waste of developing time.

Still I suppose everyone gets what they want.

This is the first new (i.e not a series) Matrix game I've really wanted and been excited about since HTTR!!

Can we have a video demo please?

Also does this use the PC power for FoW?

Videos will take a bit longer. First we (and by "we" I mean Eric) had to deal with some last-minute programming matters.

I have to admit, I don't understand your last question, about "PC power."

yeah sorry what couldn't think of the words!

The PC obviously can create FoW far easier than a boardgames can. So are the assets of a PC used to help with FoW?

I say also 'hurrah'! Finally a wargame/boardgame adapted to the pc screen! I hope this is the beginning of a long series; since I don't have the place to play boardgames, this game is more then welcome to me![&o]

I hope this is successful so they are encouraged to convert more board games.

Yes, there's FOW. I'll hold off on saying more simply because I don't want to discuss all features all at once -- after all, we've got quite a bit of time to discuss all this!

The ability to do FOW is in my opinion a great reason to play COH on the computer as well. Having played through many firefights in the board game and enjoyed them, I still found that proper FOW added a lot to the experience of firefights I was very familiar with. This experience is enhanced even further when you're playing a firefight for the first time or against an especially clever opponent.

Totally agree about FOW on the PC enhancing the board game's gameplay. With board games becoming ever more popular on the iPhone and iPad is Matrix looking to convert any other Wargames to the PC?

This looks absolutely gorgeous - although a few more screenies wouldn't have gome amiss.

The boardgame of Awakening the Bear always figured high on my buy list but limited access to H2H meant I never indulged.

Now with an AI and an online games lobby (similar to FoG?) there is no excuse - a must buy.

What are the Frontier and other additional scenarios?

Is there any likelihood of a random battle generator in the future?
Cheers

Hi Wodin,

We are already working on further expansions, but that's all I can say at this point.

The online lobby is indeed similar to the PBEM ++ system, but with TCP/IP you do need to know how to open a port or two. There is also a LAN client as well though for local or non-lobby play through the internet.

The Frontier firefights are a variety of new scenarios. They cover a lot of ground and different situations on the Eastern Front. Think of them as equivalent to the collection of scenarios in an expansion module for SL/ASL covering 1 year of the Eastern Front and you'll get the idea. We'll release more details on these including a full scenario list soon.

A random battle generator is definitely possible.

It's possible as a feature added to a future patch, or the next COH release. Not in there now, but something we know people would like to have.
