The Empire captured:
Endeh
Waingapoe

The Allies captured:

There were Imperial amphibious operations at:
Waingapoe

There were Allied amphibious operations at:

Most of the expected air attacks today, probably minus those stopped by weather. The air attacks at Hengyang were big but hit nothing, probably aimed at the now wiped out Light Industry. In turn, the B-17s at Calcutta are ordered to attack the Oil production at Magwe tomorrow.

The usual air attacks including concentrated raids on Hengyang, but they seemed largely ineffective. Our B-17s at Calcutta did not fly and the cause is unclear. Mutiny!

No whiff of Imperial carriers at all. Here is a look at China.

How about a screen shot of the victory point/losses summary table. The Japanese have done fairly well in China, but at what price has this occurred? Thanks in advance.

Meant to finish answering before posting that... on China:

We're both learning how to work with the new optional stacking limits, so don't count on any kind of best performance from either of us, certainly not all the time. I know I've screwed things up on that count, hopefully just mildly enough to keep things going!

I'm happy with how the Allies have done in China. In my view a determined Empire can take Kukong unless there is something else major going on which mitigates that. The other areas which have been conquered are all similar in nature - the plains, the areas near the coast. At start a whole bunch of Chinese units are at major risk and a number of them re sure to be mauled or outright destroyed, and that happened. There have been a few opportunities for the Chinese Army to punish Imperial units and those generally went well. Nanchang is the only exception that comes to mind. I haven't kept count but the units so battered have been shown in the AAR, and there have been several.

One chance I took was after pulling out of Kukong I had that force purposely dig in to receive - and hopefully repel - IJA attacks. I further figured that if they could withstand some attacks while the IJA was over stacked (significantly enough to matter), that would burn a bunch of supplies the IJA would have to replace, causing delay in the overall offensive. It worked. In fact I might have gotten a bit lucky because it worked better than I anticipated, and units in a blocking position were rushed to the attack. This had the effect of increasing the over stacking and weakening the blocking position. the defenders still held, and a relief force was able to break the blocking position (destroying a naval guard unit) and open an avenue for retreat. The force got back to Hengyang just in a nick of time. In that operation several Imperial units were battered and a bunch of Chinese units gained enormous battle experience. Those Chinese units which were mostly disabled have been able to move to rear areas to recover their disabled squads, with the experience gained intact. This is a major point for Chinese units - gain experience!

Near Ichang a more strongly entrenched force punished IJA attackers, and has gained additional experience from the continued bombardments. South of Changsha there has been no attack but continuous bombardments have provided the Chinese troops there with good experience gains. Looking at the Japanese ground points lost in the screen shot above those points are more than twice than in the other game (versus Andav called "Rumble in the Southwest"). I can't be sure but my sense is that the difference is in China. The operations described above, and others mentioned that punished certain IJA units, have destroyed a fair number of combat squads.

What cost? Aside from points, which we don't care about in our game, the cost has been time and resources. Those squads have to be replaced, which takes whatever is needed to feed the industry. The time will hopefully allow the Chinese Army to continue recovering disabled squads (some estimates are that 1/3 begin disabled) and so put up a stiffer defense. This is crucial because the Empire can, at some point, choose to bring in additional forces as they did IRL in 1944. Surely there will be other areas taken even with current Imperial forces in place. The whole Changsha area is threatened, and we all have to stay tuned to see what happens!

Thank you for the generous discussion of your activites in China. Contrary to some Allied players, I actually like China if for no other reason than it is a place the Allies can actively engage the IJA and be at least a real nuisance. As a result, it can change what Japan does or plans to do at the beginning of the game. There is no greater game pleasure than to see the IJA committing signifcant numbers of reserve divisons and brigades to China in the early going as those units could well be otherwise causing great mischief in Burma, N. Oz, the islands of the eastern Pacific or even India/Ceylon.

SVC continues directing the Empire's bombers against Chinese Light Industry. All that can be done is to suffer the consequences. A large Imperial force has crossed the river by surprise west of Hengyang. A move toward this was carefully watched for but zero indications seen, even though the troops across the river have been reconnoitered from the air daily. The lack of dedicated and competent recon air units in China is telling! The force is comprised of 3 units, and that is all the information available.

The opponent here is the crafty Admiral Wa, correct? I know him well. Sneaky devil and a cunning opponent. Is his side-kick, the equally sneaky, Admiral Harmataka, also involved in this cruel rendition of the Pacific War?

This opponent I have dubbed SVC - Supreme Vic Command. He is forumite vicberg and is running an AAR.

The other AAR I have going (Rumble in the Southwest) is against DAW - Devious Admiral Wa, forumite Andav (also running an AAR but not sure how up to date).

Admirals Harmasaki (forget his forum handle, he rarely posts) and Wa are teamed up against myself and forumite aprezto (formerly Wobbly) in a non-AARd 2x2 that was begun a couple of years ago. I joined that one a year and some ago and am trying to keep China alive and not destroy the Indian and British armies.

The usual air attacks. No sign of the Imperial carriers. Some SigInt in China likely indicating movement. A large supply and fuel convoy has made New Zealand and is stocking up that nation. Bataan has run out of supplies, hurried by air attacks making supply hits. The units themselves still have some supply although it is short and growing worse. A multiple SigInt hit in the DEI. The position makes it unlikely to be a supply/fuel/oil/resource convoy.

The Empire is fielding:

6 x infantry divisions
3 x independent mixed brigades
1 x infantry regiment
1 x tank regiment
1 x armored car regiment
1 x field artillery regiment

They are all parent units, and no divisions are divided into /A/B/C parts. That's the equivalent of about 8 x infantry divisions plus the armor. If I assume that an IJA infantry division boasts about 450 AV, then the infantry alone should be about 3,600 AV.

Four of the six divisions look rather beat up. They'll obviously regain disablements and strength over time, but unless he has more reinforcements on the way, Changsha should be fine in the short term.
