RE: Scen 1: Let the better propaganda win Historiker (J) vs. USS America (Evil Imperialists)
We've just started a "slow paced" Scenario 1 game. Both of us have busy schedules, so the turns won't flow rapidly. We've decided to fill in the gaps with trash talk and to share it with you all. [:D]
Effectively, I'm thinking of this as a place where both of us, and any of you, can hash out what has transpired, as much as we're willing to reveal, without discussing upcoming plans, etc.
I'll give a sneak peak: Torsten bombed Pearl Harbor on turn 1. [:D]

This should be entertaining!

What the heck is "Torsten"? A city? A forest? A person? A coelenterate?

THIS IS THE ENGLISH BROADCASTING SERVICE OF RADIO TOKYO
Dutch Aggression leads to war -- His Majesty's forces achieve descisive victories -- Gen. Tojo speaks to the nation
Dutch Aggression leads to war
On December 7th, a presumably Dutch SS attacked the defenceless civilian ship Johore Maru carrying III/143rd Infantry Bn. to a friendship visit to the Kingdom of Siam.
The loss of more than 1.000 lives was just one more act in a series of aggression by the western powers.
Fortunately, our armed forces were prepared this time...
Army units that were on an maneuver in the gulf of siam were immediately detached to land at the shores of the Malayan peninsula.
The Kido Butai and serious forces of the submarine service operation in the international waters off the Hawaiian peninsula immediately retaliated against the US aggressors.
Planes of the Army and Navy retaliated against Manila and Clack Field.
His Majesty's forces achieve descisive victories!
In our retaliatory strike with planes of the Kido Butai, which was operating in the international waters off Hawaii by accident, the Pacific Fleet of the USN was wiped out. Only a frew hours later, one of our subs managed to sink CV Lexington off Wake.
Gen. Tojo speaks to the nation
Dear fellow citizens. Several months of western aggressions finally lead to war. Despite the maximum efforts of his majesty's goverment, we weren't able to avoid war.
After months of increased tensions, illegal support for the usurpator Chiang Kai-Shek against the legal government of Wang Jingwei, the vicious western powers have unveiled their intentions to colonize the rest of Asia.
But this time, they won't face weak Vietnamese, Burmese or Chinese forces. This time, his majesty's forces will give them bloody noses!
His Majesty has ordered our armed forces to defeat the enemy once and for all, and we will follow his orders!
His Majesty has also ordered us to liberate the colonized asian people and we are honored to fulfill his wishes!
I can trust in all of you to do your best. There are great challenges ahead of us, but victory is certain. Japan hasn't been defeated for two thousand years, and will remain undefeated at least another two milleniums.
Tenno Banzai!

Are you playing two day turns? Or did you stay near Pearl Harbor for day 2? Impressive bag of BBs there and a CV too. You are off to a running start Historiker.

We're playing 1 day turns (even though I tried every trick I know to get him to agree to 2 day turns). [:D]
He did keep the KB, which "happened to be operating in international waters near Hawaii", around for a second day of poundings. The second day didn't go exactly as His Imperial Majesty planned. [;)]

Do all of you know the difference between a fairy tale and a "sea story"? A fairy tale starts off, "Once upon a time..." and a sea story starts off, "This is no sh!t..." [:D]
Well, this is no sh!t:
The crew of a RNN sub were just "chillin" in the sunny waters off the Malaysian coast, you know, doing what the Dutch like to do when they are relaxing. [:D] Then, out of nowhere a bunch of Jap ships loaded with guys with guns came blazing by. One of these ships with guys with guns tried to split the Dutch sub in half by running right through her! They had to do a crash dive, and even worse, had to put out the smoking lamp! Well, they were a little ticked off, so they put a couple of torpedoes into that arrogant ship with guys with guns and turned them into a reef with guys with wet clothes. Serves them right! [:-]
Of course, His Imperial Majesty and his pansy army and navy guys, decided to lash out at whomever they could over this "incident." They sent a bunch of ships with guys with planes to attack the USN Pacific Fleet while all of the crews were attending church services. There is no truth to the Japanese story that any of the crew were "sleeping off a Saturday night on the town". [;)]
While all of those brave sailors were away from their duty stations to attend church service, the dastardly Japanese guys with planes did their best to make more work for the paint crews of the Navy ships at anchor. Several of our ships had their paint either chipped, or scorched, or even both!!! [X(] Our brave sailors will have several hours of extra duty to clean up the mess, but they are determined to get the same revenge that the Dutch sub crew got on their dastardly Japanese attackers!
On another note, we have to report that there was a serious navigation incident involving the USS Boise. It seems that the charts of the islands in the Philippines were not as accurate as was hoped and Boise ran into some submerged rocks. She capsized and sank before she even got the news that we were at war. The captain of the ship vehemently denies all rumors of Japanese torpedoes causing the flooding damage since everyone knows the Boise could easily have shot down any planes that attempted to attack her.
The captain also assures us that he did not abandon the ship before the other crew and passengers were evacuated, and he did NOT jump into a taxi cab to leave the scene once he made it to shore.

This is my 3rd campaign game of WitP or AE that I've started, and in every one Boise never got to fire a single shot in anger.

A total exaggeration!ORIGINAL: USS America

I imagine that at least ONE of the antiaircraft batteries opened up on the attackers in a vain attempt to save face at an ignominous start. The fact that they couldn't train their Lewis pop guns on the speedy, victorious and honorable Japanese airmen (that were merely defending their territory) is just too bad.

I have to say my sunk ships list after Day 1 looks slightly less impressive than Torsten's. Mine only had 2 ships on it, USN CL Boise, sunk near Jolo by uncharted rocks, and that little xAK full of guys with guns that tried to run over our Dutch sub. I'm sure it will look a little different after Day 2, once I get the turn back. So far, I've only seen the replay.....
