I watched the latest Star Trek movie last night for first time. I was not impressed. Glad I did not spend money to see it.

Bloody awful.

Wonderful special effects. Lousy writing. Acting was so-so. Except Karl Urban. He out MCoyed Mcoy!. [:D]

I liked Chris Pine in Unstoppable. I am a railroad buff and enjoyed that movie. In this new Star Trek Kirk was too flippant. He would have been thrown out of the academy the way he won Kobayashi Maru scenario. I imagine Kirk in the original taking the scenario very seriously even though he re-programmed The scene was too flippant.

In the original Star Trek, Kirk was the youngest commander of a Constitution class star ship at 32 years old. In this Star Trek at the end of the movie they give someone who just got out of the academy command of this vessel. I don't buy it. I agree with Steve there was way too much time travel. I did like most of the special effects. I also agree with Treetop that the engineering spaces were not very good.

I also liked Ben Cross as Sarek.
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

The new Star Trek was great. They took a chance with the major plot change but it worked well enough. The engineering spaces were the best part - machines that actually do something instead of endless panels of blinking lights and magic wands.

Got in two turns on my new campaign game with Historiker this weekend, around hockey practice and watching several movies with my son and wife. Now, it's time for two recorded episodes of Battlestar Galactica and a cold drink. [8D]
