Why?

Because I am too busy being instantly superior in my attitude, followed up with a spot of belligerence and humiliation.

Ahhhh, that DAMNED, double Damned and twice in-and-out British superiority.

Oh nate, nate, nate (shakes head for effect). I think you are a little out of your depth here n'est pas? (metephorically pats nate25 on the head).
Do you really know nothing about the Great 7-year Peanut Brittle War 1800-1820?

It is impossible to code the game in that way obviously. Duh. The great thing about the G7YPBW, was - as anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of 19th century warfare knows - everyone won. All sides - even the Peruvians.

May I suggest that you learn to read, then when you have done so, you immerse yourself in Ambroses 1962 best selling trilogy: Peanut Brittle - The War Years. Come back and speak to me then, okay?

warspite1 that was really, really, really appropriate. He did ask for it.

Good news - the computer has arrived!! I must say that this has presented me with a slight problem vis-a-vis storage. I will have to put it in the garden for tonight. Its not expected to rain much so it should be okay.

Right, Parusski.

My next question is how can you let Paddington Bear produce so much ammo but Acme only an equal amount on full moons during years that have 29 days in February?

This unrealistically curtails my offensive capability as the Peruvians.

Can we nerf this in the 13th patch?

Thanks,
NG

Man, what planet did you get shuttled from?? Acme produces the most dangerous weapon know to man - BPB. You need to get up to speed before you start tossing out 33 foot allegations. I know you are a whacked out newb, but...sigh.

You might want to leave this to people who actually know about gaming.

I recently read this post from some nut-job:

"be sure to become instantly superior in your attitude, then belligerent as you humiliate them publicly. You must hide your massive inferiority complex as well as your limited knowledge of the subject."

As Cartman would say - SWEEEEET.[:D]

Shheeeeshhhhh..... [8|]

You clearly think that by directing a comment at Steiner, I am not going to continue to undermine you publically for your lack of knowledge? Listen nate25, if indeed you are capable of such, THE PERUVIANS OFFENSIVE CAPABILITY WAS CURTAILED. In a damning indictment of their military system, the Peruvian Army was unable to make one successful attack during the entire war. Although the Peruvians were the first to invent the machine gun (1798), the hand grenade (1799) and the anti-tank bazooka (1801) these developments did not translate to a victorious army.

Indeed they gave the average Peruvian infantryman a feeling of total superiority as they took to the battlefield at the First Battle of Lima. With these weapons they stood, ready to attack the British Infantry. Field Marshal S Gonzales (known as Speedy to the troops) was a tad miffed that the British had no tanks, but was confident that the hand grenades and the machine guns would see off the British. However, the Peruvian attacks were met in steadfast fashion by the valiant warriors of the Thin Red Line who stood firm in the face of ferocious onslaught followed by ferocious onslaught. But, not for the first time, a strong enemy had been beaten by good old British spunk.

The opening battle of T7YGPBW was a resounding win for the British.....and this set the scene for the carnage to come over the next seven years.

Why?

Everyone knows it was a lopsided British victory.

How were the Peruvians ever to overcome the huge disadvantage of their cap's cockades becoming wet in the salt sea spray?

Couple that with being issued the wrong headstamp for their ammunition. . . It was a recipe for disaster.

(FUN FACT - Enya's great-great uncle's second cousin on her ex-husbands side was a regimental commander at Orinoco. The second Earl of Uttoxeter, Col. J. S. B. R. T. Chivington-LaRue Smythe, of the 763rd Regt.of Foot (South Uttoxeters). The tale of his bravery inspired her song "Orinoco Flow".

Fun Fact part deux:

Did you also know that as part of the army defence review of 2003, the 763rd Regt. of Foot (South Uttoxeters) was merged with the 416th Regt. of Foot (North Uttoxeters) and the Royal Dragoon Yeomanry (City of Exeter), and became the 3,457th Regt of Foot (The Mixed Uttoxeteruttoxeterexeters)? Following the sad death of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, the newly named regiment needed a new Colonel-in-Chief. Who did they choose? Marjorie!! Damn!!!

Well, I'm confused because I thought the Review said they merged with the 2nd North Southamptons and the 23rd West East Anglians to become the Multi-Directional Brigade (57th Queens Own).

But then again, I'm not English, so. . .

Warspite,

Please remember to include the 2nd Bn., Toronto Scottish Bagpipe Regt. They were attached (temporarily) to the 763rd at Orinoco.

You Brits always want to leave Dominion forces out of these games and act like you won the war all by yourselves!

They were a vital component of the 763rd at Orinoco, ensuring that no stray cattle or sheep intruded on the flanks of the regt.

Add them to the OOB now, so you won't forget later and then claim that adding them now will upset game play balance.

Thanks,
Nate Grognard

Au Contraire nate25. We have always been proud to recognise our Dominion Allies; 2nd New Zealand Division were the dogs dangly bits [&o].

But anyway, back to the Orinoco battle. As you know, this one was vital as it led to the decisive third battle of the G7YPBW, which was fought at Puerto Maldonado on the Brazil/Peruvian border, and was imaginatively called the Battle of Puerto Maldonado. This key battle - known to this day as the Peruvian Midway - would never have been fought had it not been for Lt-Colonel "Billie" Piper and the 2nd Toronto Scottish.

At Orinoco, Chivington La-Rue Smythe was, quite frankly, in something of a pickle. The 800 men of the 763rd Regt. were down to their last round each, and had their backs against the raging waters of the Orinoco. Guarding each flank were two platoons of Toronto Bag Pipers. 1,000 yards in front were 200,000 Peruvian troops, armed with rifles, machine-guns and hand grenades.

Field Marshal "Speedy" Gonzales felt victory was in his grasp. He would order his troops forward, smash the British line, cross the river, and take the Brazilian Peanut Brittle Farm twenty miles inside the Brazilian border. At 2.10pm on the 27th July, Gonzales gave the order to advance. Despite his men falling all around him, and being mortally wounded himself, Chivington La-Rue Smythe would not retreat. Unbeknown to Gonzales, the British officer had a cunning plan.

As the Peruvian troops crested the ridge separating the two forces, they were just 150 yards apart. At that point, Chivington-La Rue Smythe gave his last order: "Now Piper, Now's Your Time". No sooner had the words left the lips of the dying officer, the 40 men of the 2nd Toronto Scottish stood up, Bagpipes already in position.

The effect was devastating. The Canadians started with a rendition of "O Danny Boy". The hideous sound that came from these fearsome instruments struck terror into the hearts of the young Peruvian conscripts. By the time the Canadians began their second tune, many Peruvians had dropped their weapons and put their hands to their ears to try and muffle the sound. "What is the British wonder weapon?" they cried plaintively.

The killer blow was "Mull of Kintyre". That was it as far as the South American troops were concerned. Those that had withstood the assault on their eardrums until this point, now turned and fled too. Machine-guns and hand grenades were no match for the Bagpipes in the hands of seasoned professionals.

The British had once again won a stunning victory. So decisive was his victory, Chivington La Rue Smythe won the Victoria Cross - even though it had not been invented yet. The official post war report on the battle was lavish in its praise of the British Infantryman and the steadfast performance of the South Uttoxeters. Oh and the Canadians were briefly mentioned too.

Why mention the Canadians at all, their only contribution was several cases of Moosehead beer.
