Panzer Commander by Guderian, although it is sharing time pretty significantly with the war in the east manual.

Re-reading John Carter series since I read them as a child and had forgotten basically what happened in any of them. Currently on the 3rd in the series, Warlord of Mars.
"Venimus, vidimus, Deus vicit" John III Sobieski as he entered Vienna on 9/12/1683. "I came, I saw, God conquered."

Citizen Soldiers by Stephen Ambrose.
Whats your opinion of him?
At the time I enjoyed the book, however looking back and after expanding my knowledge my opinion of him as an objective historian changed.
@reg, still a great read. C Ryans classic. I've read it about four times now.
I came across the Arnhem book today. Looks very good.

I find Ambrose an easy and enjoyable read. This is his third book I have read and usually some part of it will pique my interest enough to due further research.
In the "Which tank is better" discussion, Ambrose pointed out that the US Armor warfare doctrine was inherently different than the Germans, basically use numbers and speed on the open French countryside. This led to the Sherman tank. Along the same lines, that is one reason the US bogged down in the Hedgerows, no heavy equipment.
I knew that Kurt Vonnegut was in the Army but did not know he was captured in the Bulge and shipped off to POW camp in eastern Germany. I believe he was with the 106th ID?
I like C. Ryan too. Some people can just tell a great story. He is one.

History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

This time last year I read the German Invasion of Norway and the Battle for Norway - two books by Geirr H H Haarr. Reading about the Tirpitz recently has put me in mind to re-visit these top quality, excellent books. Thoroughly recommend these.

How would we know. Since he can't read he has no idea this thread exists. He has me access his computer remotely, daily, and read threads to him. SAD.

He must be pleased to have two real friends like us looking after him.
I can understand too. If one of my relations was responsible for the slaughter of 15,000 townsfolk I would not want to be able to read about it.
