How does this game work in PBEM

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

How does this game work in PBEM

Post by Mistmatz »

I am wondering how the game works in a PBEM situation?
Specifically since players could reload as often as they want until they found the best solution for any given problem (eg a series of attacks, or breakthroughs scouting the rear area). Can that somehow be prevented or is this part of the design?
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

In short u have valid concerns. In pbem's there is no stopping an opponent from using the methode u describe and gain the advantages it gives.
Problem is, i guess, u could make it harder to cheat, but in the end if ppl wana cheat they will cheat and find a way. Where on a scale do u set the bar with that in mind as a programmer.

As far as i understand there are some sorta safe guards in the server games. Obviously what they are i dont know and i wouldnt think that they would make it public, again for obvious reasons. If any wanted to know what they are, that is. As i have reload in a server game it obviously can be done. Before any out cry i ofc notified my opponent to why and asked if it was fine. He was fine with it. Had to do with faulty/incorrect game information/mechanics.

Many clever ppl have said it before, the best way to avoid cheating is to find an opponent u trust.

Kind regards,

Ramus

Didn't know about that server option, that sounds like a good enough solution. Thanks for the answer.

So all reload. If you don't for German you have near historical results.

The server option is the way to go. Its simple. If you reload heaps of times and have far fewer saves you will be kicked off it.

It's a little annoying at times with the problems they have had but it is improving and gives you some peace of mind in relation to cheating.

I think that means you haven't read my treads about reloads and suggestions to exclude them from the game.
