The Chinese forces at Hengyang will make a deliberate attack tomorrow, and the Chinese Air Force is deploying to fields within range to support the assault. Supplies are low in Hengyang, but mostly displayed as low in the units due to the drain of today's battle. This move is risky but there is a credible chance of retreating a large IJA formation and this chance will only be present for the first day as they are disrupted from the river crossing. I spent PP to replace the commanders of the 4 largest (current AV) Chinese units in the hope that will help.

The bombardments at Changsha and immediately to the south about maintained the status quo as they have recently. At Bandoeng the Allies also gained a victory, although small and sure to be fleeting.

The Empire captured:
Sawoe-eilanden
Tacloban

The Allies captured:

There were Imperial amphibious operations at:
Tacloban
Lautem

There were Allied amphibious operations at:

Imperial troops made progress in attacks at both Bataan and Tarakan, that latter defense showing weakness for the first time as it took greater casualties even with 1 to 4 favorable odds. It seems that the Imperial salient west of Hengyang has moved into that city to bolster the forces that were hurt so badly crossing the river two days ago. Our own troops in Hengyang are little better off than yesterday. Disruption is improved, but supply and fatigue are barely better. They are still behind level 4 fortifications, and it is doubtful that the Empire has much more to throw at them unless and until SVC orders in formations from outside of China.

Here is the Intel screen showing the stats. The Japanese ground losses never seem to get close to the Allies', but there is a nice increase here compared to when I past posted it.

The bombardment at Hengyang revealed valuable Intel as it showed that the three units which moved in from the forest after crossing the river astride the city are actually smaller units, not full strength division or any such to worry about. Our own units are still too under-supplied to attack, although even if they could they would be unlikely to muster better than 1 to 1 odds.

Over near Paoshan an Imperial unit has been spied moving to flank the defenses of that important border town.

Today saw the usual ground bombardments but no ground assaults. Bombing was mostly as usual, but seemed to concentrate more on Changsha.

Here is a look at air losses so far in the game.

An undetermined force has appeared near Kweilin, which is well defended. Liuchow of course is in open country and always at risk. There is also an undetermined force heading into Shwebo away from Katha. It was not sighted farther up the road toward Katha so its mission is unclear.

Will any of the units freed up of duty there move to China? The same trio of bombardments occurred around Changsha, with pretty much the same results.

Tomorrow Yorktown, Enterprise, Lexington, and Saratoga will finish their upgrades at Pearl Harbor. They have a group of destroyers without upgrades in case they need to put to sea, otherwise they will await the completion of upgrades for destroyers that will then provide better protection. The remaining destroyers will begin upgrades when their peers are back in service. Hornet will finish her upgrade tomorrow at Alameda.

Same bombardments around Changsha with similar results. No sign of Imperial activity in or around the Timor Sea, but our search assets there are limited to submarines and any friendly coast watchers that report. A TF carrying the USA 27th ID to Christmas Island has been spotted, most likely by an aircraft-carrying sub.

Through diplomatic third party channels, SVC has recommended that the defenders of Tarakan being recognized for their tenacity. KB might be located as a massive radio source in the Java Sea, 120nm NNE Soerabaja. If so, what it was doing near Babar is a bit of a mystery. TF 66, bound for Christmas Island with the USA 27th ID, is hidden from prying eyes under a cloak of extreme overcast. They will make port tomorrow.

Here is a look at the other DEI stronghold, Bandoeng.

The same bombardments in China, and similar results. If anything, the casualties at Hengyang are increasing. Tarakan is close to falling after taking more casualties today than the Empire's troops.

No further sign of the KB or any additional expansion. In another AAR (someone else's) Vic commented that he has decided not to do a phase 2 in his PBM and I believe he meant this one. Of course that could be misinformation (100% ethical in context - I mean misinformation in the spirit of good competition in a FOW game like AE), or he could have meant it. He also might change his mind at any point. But with his statement in mind, here is an overview map filtered to show only bases for both sides, no ship or air units or ground units.
