Disappearing Giga Bites.......

Post by Titanwarrior89 »

Question for you computer Geeks(I say that with love in my heart[:)]). My computer had 565 GB's free space-yesterday. Get up this morning its now 558 GB's. Where did the 7 GB's go and why? This has happened more than once. Just wondering. I am running Norton aniti-virus. I only bring that up because I was wondering if they were pulling storage to their web site.

That's a small percentage change, might be just something as simple as a temp file or a swap file.

Might be a small percentage change it's still 7 Gb's... did you d/l a game or a demo of a game? Those 7 Gb's didn't go anywhere, it's used space on your HD... used for some reason, gamefiles or music of whatever.

Could it be temporary internet files stored by IE?

First get rid of Norton. LOL

Get Avast. The free version is good, the paid version is even better.

Always run the disk clean up tool. Delete the old restore points except the most recent. Delete all temp files. I'v emanaged to clear 12 gigs once on my step sons laptop.

I run disk clean up every month.

Probably some Windows updates triggered some additional Restore Point backups.

Agreed--it's most likely restore points.

Just delete all but the last/most recent one and you should get your space back.

FWIW, it's not just windows updates that cause this, I've seen it happen from everything from new videocard drivers to games.

So, how may restore points does Windows accumulate before it devours your storage? [&:]

That's a real question, BTW.

I don't use "System Restore," eschewing the option and maintaining a proper image file on a separate disk.
