Who is at war with who

Is there a way to see who is at war with who other than checking each race under the diplomacy screen?

Hello Radwyn;

You could also use the Game Editor. Open 'Edit Empires'. You will get a list of the Empires in your
game. If you select an individual Faction/Empire, you'll see who they have met, have war with, and
what relationship they have (Free Trade Agreement, MDP, etc.). Hope this helps! [:)]

I also enjoy these replies that are like: just edit the game!
Yeah, because when I buy a car from the dealership thats what I want to hear: no speedometer? Just make one yourself... Or stick your hand out the window and judge for yourself like everyone else.

Editing the game is not a solution to a problem! It is just another problem!

I think he was trying to make a friendly suggestion for a work-around, not sell you a car or a computer program. I find checking each race under the diplomacy screen to be acceptable, if not particularly elegant.

No offense to you or the OP, but how else would one likely check who's at war with who (other than looking it up under the diplomacy screen)? In grand strategy games like this one, that's nearly always the most obvious place to look. [&:]

Well... Some games where there is a diplomacy factor have also thing which I would call "Diplomatic Relation Map" where You can see all diplomatic relation easily (or with big dificulty if it is done bad, in a chaotic way). I personaly thing that it would be better than checking each faction one, by one. But I do not thing it is really something that important. Moreover it is not that checking each faction in diplomacy screen is working bad, because it is not. It is good as it is. Simply could be better and that all.

Yeah, I think a 'map' type diplomacy relations screen would be quite useful, but probably a little chaotic with games running 20+ races. The diplomacy screen as it is suits my needs fine, but there's always room for improvement.

On a side note, I'm quite disappointed by this forum at the moment. The OP asked a valid question, albeit without really stating why they don't like the diplomacy screen, but no reason they should have to do that. ehsumrell1 gave the only possible answer, and for some reason gets it in the neck.[&:]

I guessed that what he wanted was a little circle with each race displayed on the circumference, with lines connecting each race, colour coded to indicate their diplomatic stance. That sort of thing has been in many a 4X game. However, it does not exist nor is there any way of getting the information radwyn (OP) wanted, given the current diplomatic display system. As such, my answer as simply "no" - there is no way of getting the information he wanted, as I interpreted his post.

That said, it is something that should be added to the ever-growing list of requests for Elliot. However, given his resources and the number of more serious outstanding issues, I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

It wasn't an answer, as it did not achieve what the OP wanted - and really it offered nothing substantially different from the information that is displayed in the diplomacy screen. I believe the criticism of his suggestion is more that it failed to give the information that the OP was looking for (ie: admission that it does not exist), and differed little from the non-editor tools available aside from revealing the diplomatic status of the viewed race with races the player hasn't yet met. I have yet to have this as an issue (if one of my opponent's allies is close enough to be a problem in a war, I almost certainly have met the race by the time I'm rattling my sabre/(re)loading my missiles), so I don't see any substantial benefit from ehsumrell1's method.

Thus I agree with jpwrunyan's criticism - though admittedly he could have worded it better.

So that we may end this issue, I'll respond to this issue one last time.
First, Kayoz, it was an answer to his question as I interpreted it. As a Beta tester of this
game, I respond with all angles to a solution whenever possible. I see my answer as no different
than say, look it up in the Galactopedia. Just another way to skin a cat.

Secondly, Jpwrunyan, respectfully speaking, my answer to Radwyn's question was straight-forward. I
did not mention anything about editing the game. You can use the game editor for information
concerning your active game just like you use the Galactopedia. All Radwyn asked was for any other
method to achieve his goal, and he didn't specify how (meaning within the game's structure or not).

Finally, Igard, thanks for the support, but remember, we've been on these DW forums long enough to
know this stuff happens occasionally. Let's continue to progress on what we do to make this game and
forum successful. The only criticism I need to seriously address is from Erik, Elliot and any others
from the Matrix team. Thus far, I haven't heard any. Far as the rest goes, I'll use the green button
again if I see fit and keep progressing! Peace to all! [:)]
