Help with Beta-Install (once more)

Ok here is the situation;

-I run two versions of witp:ae on my computer (folders witp and witp2)
-I chose to install the latest beta in the folder witp
-I create a new shortcut to witp/beta2
-I start the game by the created shortcut
-I try to load the save from my opponent who has allready patched
-I am told that the game is saved under a different version
-I then start the game with the shortcut pointing to witp2
-Now the saved files work

The problem is that the folder witp2 uses different hex data files (as they should as this game is against another opponent and with older versions of the game).

So, the question is : why when I chose the path witp (and not witp2) is the game not upgraded for that folder, but for the witp2 folder (and not witp)???
And how do I sort it out?
