Data/Mods Question

Post by Mundy »

Hi,

I'm trying to clarify to myself how mods and their data are structured in the game.

Let me know if I'm off base.

The actual Database containing all the Units, Ships, Aircraft, etc and their stats are particular to the actual scenario used.

However, any files pertaining to Map Art and the the Map Data files, along with all unit/airplane/ship art are global, and if new ones pertaining to a particular mod are to be used, need to use a separate install or the use of the Jonesoft app to handle it.

That it? Anything I'm missing? [&:]

I've tended to avoid mods, but circumstances have caught up with me.

Thanks,

I am not qualified to answer your question; but am confident that one of the Big Boys will.

However, as to your highlighted comment, all I can say is "resistance is futile"...<grin>

Yeah, I know.

It all started when my current PBEM opponent requested to play RA 3.0.

I'm trying to keep things simple in my setups.

If I go with the Jonesoft app, I can get rid of my extra install. I'll have to go to regedit and reset the default folder to the original WITP-AE folder rather than my RA instll.

I have done both - used the Jonesoft app (a first class utility) and multiple installations of AE. My preference is to have multiple copies of AE that are task specific - i.e. Babes Scn28C v10 has it's own separate install. Currently, there are eight on my computer, of which two are active. As I like to mod my games, I found that separate installs prevent me from making mistakes and changing data that could affect another version that shares the same installation.

While I have not yet played RA 3.0, I have followed it's development with great interest. The RA Team has been around for a long time, and is very experienced. Mate the RA concepts with Babes, and you have (there is no doubt in my mind) - a winning combination.

Just my 2 cents.

RA 4 does just that.
I think that the two obligations you have are to be good at what you do and then to pass on your knowledge to a younger person

I agree. It's been fun so far. It does feel strange converting an Omaha into a CLAA, though. [:D]. The starting locations for the US TFs at sea also prevent you from doing the same old Dec 8 habits. It also seems like IJN CVLs are everywhere at times.

I'll have to think about the app. I'm figuring it's grabbing files from a particular mod folder and overwriting everything in the game's art folder every time you set the mod. Since there are a gajillion files, it must take a bit of time to do this with each switch.

Mundy, is that some sort of carrier just made for transporting planes or is it an actual combat carrier?
After 16 years, Civ II still has me in it's clutches LOL!!!
Now CIV IV has me in it's evil clutches!

Pretty much a transport carrier.

It's sorta tongue-in-cheek going back to the UV days, when there was a big debate going on here about how to use her.
