So, after 4 pages of chatter, threats, maps, lines drawn, and changed, we at last approach the point of doing all those foul deeds and actually blowning something up.

The Emperor should enjoy the next year greatly....if not, then surrender gracefully before the Allies start planting mushrooms on your islands. Good luck, Historiker.....the Allies will not go meekly to their doom.
I am already buying US war bonds, so I will win anyways [:D]

And the waiting for turn one has begun... [>:]

Yes, one of the few great negatives of a WitP game is planning and executing the first few turns. As the Allies, I am always exhausted by the firat turn and it stays that way while the Great Manila Track Meet is underway:).

Hope you have a blast playing. I enjoy your posts both here and in other AARs.

Luckily Jocke decided in my game to do very little in the first turn and I got it back within a day. The second was the long one.

As this game starts in the middle of the war, there's a lot to do. Mike told me not to count on the turn before end of weekend. Strangely, he says his wife is more important than AE! [:-]

The first turns will be rather quiet anyways, as the fronts are mostly stabilized.

The turn is back. Almost nothing happend, as the forces have to get into position, first. I put a 250kg bomb into an AMc in Chittagong Harbor.

Supplies, HI and Manpower have dropped dramatically thanks to the changes in industry. I hope it won't collapse too much. The vehicle pool was also reduced from 1.000 to a few points, while no tank unit had "recieve replacements" activated. I have to investigate that further.

Good news: I am making about 100 points surplus in naval points. I think about halting 4 to 5 subs and to accelerate Taiho. Recieving her in 44 will make no difference, getting her in mid 43 should have some impact.

Yep. Go for Taiho. You can probably do an Unryu or two as well.

Do mechanized support use vehicle points?

I think you can hold all subs at lest for some time. They will not win war for you. Later you car restart those with Glen squadrons.
Better to have 2, 3 maybe more CV accelerated

Indeed, 60 motorized support was build, each having 15 loading points. 15*60 is 900...

I stopped 14 subs and accelerated both Taiho and Shinano (we agreed to turn her into a Taiho as well). The'll both be in the play in mid 43 now. I also have a reserve of 30 to 40 nav points. I also ordered the expansion of 20 naval points and will continue this bit by bit regarding the supplies in the HI.

annoying:
I already had to pay 3 VPs for missing garrisons, all in Malaya and the PI. I first have to find the appropriate units for that task which will take some time...

Turn 3:

Still no engagement. A few almost useless air attacks on chinese troops is all that smells like gunpowder.

Production:
As the CV Junyo is completed, I was able to restart 6 SS, only 8 remain halted, despite CV Taiho and CV Shinano accelerated. Both will arrive in April and June 43, when they may still make a difference. I Think about accelerating one more CV, this time an Unryu.

I keep loosing VPs thanks to the insufficiant garrisons in the PI. With no shipping around, yet, I will keep loosing points for some more days. Little annoying.

It all depend what are your targets. For some players points are important and for some not.
In my case i do not watch on losing points from partisans.
I only hold garrisons in bases with strategic importance where damage made by partisans may cripple logistic like ports or AF or building afford.

To win this game is to do better than IRL, not to have some statistics look right. But as we see, I'm not fully able to ignore those messages.

3 points each day right now counts quite a little. I don't want to loose the game by points because of that. I also think it is ok to be forced diverting my troops a little. It wasn't different IRL.

But I'll have to see...

Does base damage have any effect on the supplies flowing through it?

Agree completely.

Not sure about flow, but I'm pretty sure that it will destroy supplies that are in the base at that time. So, I have to garrison my bases that on my supply routes.

Thank you.
My turn was already sent back, and I decided to stop Musashi to advance the three 1944 Unryus. They are in the Blueprint phase, so accelerating them only costs the 61 points the usual construction will cost. I'll see how I continue, once they enter the normal built phase.

I defenitly want the Musashi, but I think it is not needed, yet.

Turn 4:
Nothing special. The troops are still getting in position, Ships are on course to their destinations. KB is on the way to combine at Truk. He starts with two carriers at New Caledonia and I'm going to start the hostilities in that region with a sortie toward the Fiji area. Maybe I can catch something...

Troops in China move into position for the first offensives.

Working on the factories: Unfortunately, the whole industry starts like 12/41 - and all R&D Factories have 0(x). So supplies in the HI might get tight, soon. Fortunately, I don't have to transport any supplies to support the conquest of the SRA anymore.

That's really had with the R n D being at zero. That means you'll have to wait for 9/42 for the Tojo and the Helen IIa I think, right?

I think you probably also don't have as much set up in the Solomons as you might usually. It's a lot to get done when the Allies can push ahead in the Pacific starting in a few months, really.

Do all of the troops Japan gets in the first six months, like all of those base forces and SNLFs end up just sitting in Tokyo, or are they already in a location on the perimeter?

The troops are spread a little, but by far not the way most players would. Also, almost all ships start in Osaka, so it takes weeks to get the necessary transport capacity to where it is needed.
Fortunately, the allied side has a similar situation.

Also: as Midway didn't happen, I am confident I can repell any invasions into the Solomons right now witht the KB being comoposed of 7CV, 3CVL and 2CVE.

I started to take my defending positions in the last turns with fast transports. As there weren't any enemy troops, two squads each were enough to raise the flag:

Turn 7 has been sent back. I didn't do updates, because nothing was worth mentioning. Still no battle to speak off except forcing back another Chinese unit and some small air attacks on chinese ground units without opposition.
I realized that I had accidently started building the wrong Torpedo bomber to use up the obsolete engines, damn! Already spent several thousand supplies in vain. But I guess that can happen...

KB is combined in Truk next turn. I will do a sortie towards Fiji after that, so we might see the first action there. The first to allied subs also are spotted. One off Rabaul, the other one close to Rangoon.

I hope my sortie won't end this way: [;)]

5/8/42

First blood!

Subs:
RO-64 hits a mine at Tricomalee while trying to lay some of that eggs itself. The cutie goes down... [:(]
I-17 meets xAK Anhui a little south of Diego Garcia and sends her to the bottom with torpedoes and shells. She was on a mine laying mission to Diego Garcia and thus she's already out of torpedoes.

China:
13th Ind. Mixed Brigade crosses the river north of Pengpu and crushes the 89th Chinese Corps:
Ground combat at 90,49 (near Pengpu)

Japanese assault odds: 146 to 1

Allied ground losses:
775 casualties reported
Squads: 54 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 26 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 3 (3 destroyed, 0 disabled)
Units retreated 1

Not a single Japanese soldier is wounded or killed!

Another attack near Kaifeng doesn't go that well. I expected the terrain to have less influence and my forces suffer many casualties in wounded:
Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 6417 troops, 50 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 224

Defending force 4694 troops, 43 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 181

Japanese adjusted assault: 47

Allied adjusted defense: 427

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 9

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
1178 casualties reported
Squads: 4 destroyed, 151 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 9 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 10 disabled

Allied ground losses:
28 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled

Assaulting units:
3rd Ind.Mixed Brigade
15th RGC Temp. Division

Defending units:
98th Chinese Corps

Regarding the leaders(+), I should definitly consider chaning leaders whereever possible, as soon as PPs are available.

KB will rest 3 to 5 days in Truk to refit and repair the slight damage from transfer before it starts its first war patrol.

Yeah, a lot of lousy leaders in China at start for IJ. Worse, several of them are quite pricey to replace. [:(]

I'm even impressed that there are any (+) leaders for the chinese at all [;)]

Right now, I need every single PP to buy out garrison units and tank units from Manchuria and Korea as I have a lot of use for them...
