1 Million Man attack!!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

1 Million Man attack!!

Post by sajer »

Let me set the scene for you.

It is the second week in January 1943. (I) The Germans still hold the city of Orel. Ther are lots of guards units around me. But I have been able to hold them off with a lot of recon and shuffling units to and from hotspots and exposed position (those that can be attacked from three sides e.g.).

40 miles north of Orel sits a Jager Division in the 4th Army (decent morale) - a bit more than 10,000 troops. With a fortification unit anf a fort level of 3. On the Soviet side sits a Gurads Infantry Division and a Guards Tanks Corps. The attack heppens. I look up and see my Jager Division with a decent 300 defence factor and of course the fort of 3. I look at the Soviet and see 1,169,000 Men 22,000 art and 5,000 tanks. I am frozen into immobility, my fingers won't work to take a screenshot. The offensive factor is 968 (which should me much more). The result if just a retreat of the Jager Division of one hex, no routing, no shattering etc..

I am patched up to the latest version.

Anyone see this before? I was flabbergasted!

That sounds incredible alright...you know that you can get the battle results screen back up by clicking on the battle icon after hitting F11, right? Would be great to see a screenie, I have never seen so many men, guns, or tanks in a battle before, not even close! Looks like everything was multiplied by 10!

Wow. Biggest I've seen is just over 300,000 and that took 9 Guards Rifle Corps, 27 SU's, the Army-donated SU's and 6 Arty Divs. Perhaps there is FOW in the battle results too?

General McClellan lives! [:)] That's not 3 soldiers, a tree, 6 bushes and their shadows, that's a reinforced platoon.

he...he... actually no beers - it was early morning. no smoking either.

Round 2 happened - a 500,000 man attack from a single hex. Not the same hex either.

This game has featured three beta downloads and the latest official patch. But I'm thinking that should not matter.

If this keeps up two single units can roll up Army Groups A & B all alone!

During testing, these sorts of numbers were usually an indication of corrupt data making a number go negative. There was also an issue with decimal points getting moved, but as far as I know, no repeatable save could be provided, so the bug was never eradicated.

If this has repeated, I think Pavel would be very interested in receiving the before and after saves.

If it's in a vs. AI game, it could be due to the issue that the AI somehow created enormous units, way above their TOE, that was fixed a while ago. It might be that the AI still had some of those units around.

Sorry Elmo3,

I do not. I started a new game with the official patch. I have seen some wierd things there as well. Hugely inflated CV's of Russian troops (especially) arty units. If this happens again I will get you a save.

I am playing the Germans (Human) vs the Soviet Union (AI) - with full fog of War settings on.

I have to say though, that the AI seems to have improved immensely. Twice I thought I had him in fairly tight pockets around Smolensk on turn 4 and again on 5 - but he managed to break through someway. As someone who was used to playing a dumbed down AI - I dread to think what will happen in the Winter!! [X(]

The artillery CV's are because the CV's you see at the start are those for the current detection level. It also confuses me from time to time, because initial CV's can be very inaccurate.

If you're playing against the AI, the issue could have been due to the aforementioned bug of the AI creating enormous units.

You wrote that the AI is escaping from pockets? This could be the feared teletransportation bug. It may be a good idea to play with autosave on and post any truly aberrant escapades.
