Two days ago, "The Noumea Herald" (a local tabloid) reported the "tragic loss" of the USN fleet carrier CV-2 LEXINGTON while trying to make port after she had received massive damage in a heroic battle some days before...
However, tonight one of our submarines sighted her again - surfaced! [X(] Guessing that such an emersion of a ghost ship can´t be a good omen, the haunted men on board this sub decided it would be better to help her back to bed... [:-]

today, our U-boat commander radioed: >>>LEXINGTON sunk with a very loud & massive "boooomm", saw her slipping beneath the waves just in the harbour entrance of the enemy base Noumea.<<< End of transmission.

These men will get a very warm welcome at their return to port! One gallon Sake for everyone! [8D]

serendipitously, one of our G3M "Nell" searchplanes equipped with the latest aerial recon photo tech was able to take a shot of the scene.

They barely escaped fighters scrambled to intercept from different airstrips on New Caledonia...!

since the enemy tries to clear all those mines at Irau, we sent some surface units to intercept them...

Both vessels (one DMS escorted by DD FLETCHER) were sunk in a matter of minutes.

Early April, 1943.

The enemy is going to launch a two-pronged attack now.
Countless DDs were sent as FT TF towards Irau, loaden with troops. Dozens of them hit mines or met one of my submarines underway. At least ten are sunk instantly. The troops that made it ashore seem to be quite weak, and we´re going to repel this invasion immediately.
In the meantime, another invasion fleet consisting of AP/AK type transports anchored off LeaLea (the tiny spot next to PM). Also there, mines took some toll. At daylight, my bombers hit them hard. And the last night we sent a cruiser + destroyer force which caused heavy losses amongst them. We´ll see how many troops made it on land, so they can be dealt with as well.

several Sc TFs were sent out to thwart the allied invasion plans, and they contributed greatly to the desperation already caused by our mines and A/C. KB also joined the attacks again. Most allied vessels are sunk or deadly wounded by now, including all those precious MSWs and a decent number of more DDs. Allied troop losses are estimated as heavy.

However, some men could be thrown onto the beaches, any they are mostly hiding in the jungle yet - waiting for their comrades to reinforce them.
A swiftly announced conference with the IJA staff paved the way for our own countermeasures, which are already underway...

With the loss of Lexington, Hornet, Enterprise, Saratoga, Yorktown, and Wasp.... it is very difficult to use CVEs to provide LRCAP for those transports loaded with troops. My only choice was to try 2 invasions at once so that the IJN KB was occupied with 1 and not both invasions. Yes there are troops at both locations and it will be some time while the LBA - B17s, B-24s, and any other bombers make their impact on those IJA fortifications. stay tuned for a more detailed report....

KB set out once more after one our flying boats detected the USN sailing towards PNG again. However, when they saw our fleet coming the american powerplants were fired up to 120% in order to escape their certain destruction. So only a few attacks at extreme range could be delivered, which of course did only minor damage for decent A/C losses of mine in return. Only a handful cruisers weren´t so lucky and at least one of them (CL 50 HELENA) sunk after another torpedo from a lurking sub.

In the meantime, the situation at Irau is quite clear. Most enemy troops were thrown back into the sea again. Only meagre remnants are still fighting to the end... The numerous encounters with our naval & air fleet obviously took a heavy toll, at least there are no more allied runs to this island anymore. Many additional ships were reported sunk the last days, mostly AKs and DDs. Some of them are cramping the already narrow waters of the emergency harbour at Nevea in the Northern Hebrides.

another enemy operation to take PM failed again. His initial troops took the road up to Wau, and most of my units were in hot pursuit of them. In the meantime some FT TFs tried to bring in fresh troops to PM. But I had kept back a guard force for such a case, and hurried an additional regiment to the scene. They made short work of the invaders...
Most of the UNS ships sunk, since all of them ate about half a dozen mines each... Approx. five cruisers and ten DDs reported sunk...

The IJN Flotilla continued their Combat Patrol along the coast of OZ. Finding nothing the fleet started East hoping to pick off some ships in New Hebrides Islands. Some IJN search aircraft spotted a few Allied TKs making their slow pathetic way into Brisbane. You know the IJN wanting to practice their skills moved into range... spending way too much time near Brisbane and scoring some shots on Tankers, they decided a port bombardment task force would be good for morale. They sent in all their BBs and CAs... really not a big deal since Brisbane has very little to offer...

Meanwhile, the Allied Command in Townsville decided that all the Troops Transports and Fast Transports were going to make another run into PM... How could the IJN not know that the entire Allied Fleet is anchored in Townsville??? This is completely unconventional, but these as desperate times and unconventional is what the Allied Command needs.

The strangest things happen during these next few turns...
The IJN move at max speed North between PM and GG hoping to catch some transports with their fatigued pilots... UH!!! OH!!! the Allied CV Fleet is in the middle of the transports and escorted by every CLAA, BB and CA and all the P-38s flying LRCAP from Cooktown... IJN CVs hit and retreating from the Coral Sea... Allied CVs never got touched...

David forgot to mention that most of his invasion fleet is already sunk or about to be...

Though I must admit the CV battle was not as hoped for, I kept my entire force in the area to crush the allied invasion. The 15K+ mines did their own work... Furthermore, I sent in some strong naval groups which made short work of the remnants. All USN minesweepers went down, what gives very dark prospects for any future landings.
A/C losses quite heavy on both sides.

But I guess I can repel also the 3rd try for PM. Even if not, there is nothing left for the Allied command to supply this spot...

thru some secret diplomatic channels we get the impression the Allies are ripe for peace now... Its been said they´re about to concede defeat and that the US government as well as the United Kingdom aren´t willing to commit any more forces into this sinkhole. Obviously the losses in ships were far to excruciating to bear. Though the output of the allied wharfes is still increasing, their whole effort will now be directed against Hitler´s Nazi realm.

We´re looking forward to a very nice future down in the Nanyo-Cho... without any further disturbances from foreign advisors...

Our victorious forces are quite worn out, but still they scored oustandingly. Will post a more detailed report after some heavy sake sessions, which are about to begin...
