Tinkering with KB & PH

Post by treespider »

Currently exploring options that will limit a players opportunities to loiter around Pearl Harbor after Day 1...and also provide for a more realistic damage spread to ships at PH.

Adjustments will be made under the assumption that the game is started with Dec 7 Surprise - ON and Historical 1st Turn - On. Will also be using DBB C as the base line.

Options include but are not limited to and in no particular order:

1. Adjusting the CAP settings at Pearl for a slightly more robust response to initial raid with the hope being that slightly more attacking Japanese aircraft are damaged.

2. Adjusting initial Attack Altitude settings with the hope being that slightly more attacking Japanese aircraft are damaged from AAA.

3. Adjusting initial Endurance/Fuel settings for BB's and CV's in KB, giving them shorter legs, requiring more refueling stops to get home. Hopefully these ships can be provided with an an upgrade option that takes one day (or immediate) to complete and will restore current endurance/fuel values. Upgrade will also provide incentive for KB to return to the HI after raid.

4. Adjusting the At-Start capacity of the Resupply TF accompanying KB...lowering amount of fuel available. As above upgrade available to restore current values.

5. Adjusting available Sorties for CV's, with immediate upgrade option as in point 3. Historically KB's initial Ammo load was limited vis-a-vis torps and 800kg bombs.

6. Adjusting the At-start Damage values of some of the ships in PH...in hopes that attacking aircraft tend to target damaged ships first.

Other ideas welcome...

Maybe wrong about this, but I thought that ships could be given a starting fuel level? If true, you could just reduce them to a level below 100%.

I saw that in the editor...I may mess with that this evening and see what kind of cake pops out of the oven.

"cake pops out of the oven"? Now there's a metaphor worth contemplating. I thought that was only used for babies!

I would just reduce the fuel in the CVs and accompanying ships and take the replenishment TF off the map altogether.

If you really want to force a return to the HI then the fuel stock at Truk also needs to be reduced drastically.

Another symptom of having been away for awhile...I hadn't noticed. I assume you are referring to the potential follow-up strikes being more painful.

Guess Ill run some test on DBB_C tonight when I get home.

Even still I want to see if i can influence the fuel issue as well as the number of ships hit in the 1st day strike.

It was even more painful when i combined JWE's AA improvements to my own private mod. KB "lingering" and attacking quickly had unacceptible servicability levels.
