well, this unit was in bad shape before the air strike. Time will tell if Sid has overpowered air attack.
Actually, compared to stock devices, our weapons are REDUCED in effect. We do not use the weight of
a bomb, we a function of the square root of its weight for HE - there is a constant in front of the square root.
All we did that made it go up was make the number of bombs historical = standard load for planes - and
it appears the design and code were pretty good in dealing with that.
What I do that really matters is SYSTEMATICALLY pressure a unit with regular air strikes and/or naval
bombardment PLUS picking on units like this one - with no good supply source. If possible I reduce supply
to nil - cutting the LOC first - and then bombing to destroy production in hex if I can't yet occupy it.
No supplies PLUS bombardment means the unit will not do well when attacked.
Also note my LCU values are stronger than any other mod insofar as we have more squads - making the unit
more survivable - for both sides. This because we model the size to transport the unit - draft is bigger than
motor - pack is bigger than draft - although firepower wise pack is least powerful, draft in the middle and motor
strongest - mostly because bigger weapons are carried by motorized units, smaller weapons by pack units.
In important respects, the defending units are harder to kill than in stock - more squads = longer attrition process.
Note also I will use combined arms if possible: if small units, infantry plus artillery, or better plus artillery and armor;
or a RCT or 1/3 of a division (with slices of arty, engineers and recon), and very often, a HQ in support as well.
If a fragment unit has only support elements, I use that fragment to support OTHER units until the unit can reunify.
[Landings - particularly if you evade submarines and break them off - result in fragmented units at times]
Combines arms attacks work MUCH better than just pure infantry does. Just as IRL.

BTW, ElCID is moving as quick as he can to take this base.
This attack also shows how I "hedged the bet" by mixing ASW bombs or DC with actual bombs. This was also done in practice -
bombs intended to hit the sub if on or near the surface - ASW bombs are depth fused so they deal with it if it managed to get
under. But also it means that at the least the regular bombs hurt the transport. In this case, the weapon that actually hit was
the DC - according to a message flashed at the instant of impact. Just as a Val drops 1x250 KG and 2x60 KG bombs can lead
to either a 250 kg OR a 60 kg hit report - this case generated a DC hit report. I am pleased.

My patience wares thin. Your response to my protest of the takeover of Japanese territory at Moho
is wholly unsatisfactory. Your responsibility includes a very long front line - indefensably long. I have
ordered a demonstration that you cannot defend every village everywhere effectively. In deliberately
measured terms, so as not to be construed as a serious invasion. Just as I do not construe the
loss of Moho as an invasion.
Both our nations vital national interests at present require we do not allow events in our area get out
of control. On the other hand, both of us also are responsible for the security of the territory we
defend. If you are reluctant to act with appropriate diplomacy, I suggest you contact your national
leadership for guidance. No doubt they will advice you of the strategic facts of life in this time frame.
Easy to find: it is the topmost dot in Manchukuo - not present in most Mods I am sure - but a wonderful
jumping off point for raiders vs the Trans Siberian RR - and being a location one can stockpile supplies there.
Its real function otherwise is a resource center - something it does wether or not garrisoned or built into
an airfield - although the resources only rarely escape down the road system to a place that can use them -
they do go periodically. In RHS, all the important centers for mining, timber or even agriculture generate
resources - by the Matrix standard - ton for ton - except we discount out what is used by the local economy
and a fraction for non-military economy requirements - so you see only part of what is really produced in
any given place as a rule.

Moho:
I see you found it. Your image reveals the local "industry" - the Light Industry is
a sawmill! Almost all the economic significance is in "resource centers" - and
you can see what I mean that it collects resource points. In RHS light industry
eats 10 resource points per day, while heavy industry eats 20 - in addition HI also
nees fuel. A Resource center makes 20 points a day - so it "feeds" one HI center
or two LI centers. This permits representation of very small industries where
appropriate, as at this location.
Note the other dot locations in this Northern part of Manchukuo. If a road goes there,
in general there is an ECONOMIC asset at the end of the road! I look it up - and almost
always find it. There are similar dots all over the map - including in Russia - which gets
some depth - and logic to its secondary road net - because of these locations. Each
can become an airfield and/or a fort - and you can order supplies to stockpile at them
even if not developed. I sometimes secretly build supply dumps that won't be noticed
as a way to facilitate a raid I plan later in the game at these kinds of locations. They
also aid in the defense of a territory.

I'm very interested by what I'm seeing of this mod - you seem to be very good at finding ways to represent things not available in stock.
On that note, have you been able to model fleet tugs? That seems to be the one ship type whose primary function isn't represented.
Also, does your enhanced land OrBat include USN UDTs?

Landings at Rabaul and the NW tip of Borneo (Sinkawang)
The ancient Vildebeeste is showing its ugly head again,
and it was effective as per usual - in a sense other Allied bombers are not.
For that matter, Walrus' continute to fly into Shanghai - never mind we
should have smashed the airfield today - maybe we did (it is a float plane
after all)
I expect both locations to fall to the first assault. Hang ups - as at Guam - are
due to improper TF loading. I was an amphib sailor after all - on the last APA ever built for USN.
A unit turned up on the Western RR in Malaya - a small one - so there is a line in Central
Malaya to buy some time. We are hitting both elements of it with bombers - and it may
not last long enough to actually assault it. Most bombers now are flying from bases in
Malaya itself. Similarly, on Luzon, the entire air division is on the island, making strikes
very efficient. But some auxiliary aircraft are operating out of Bataan - so we will see
what we can do about that?
More operations are staging up.
The Russians also are out of hand - attacking an IJA unit with 14 casualties!!!

The ancient Vildebeeste is showing its ugly head again,
and it was effective as per usual - in a sense other Allied bombers are not.
For that matter, Walrus' continute to fly into Shanghai - never mind we
should have smashed the airfield today - maybe we did (it is a float plane
after all)
I expect both locations to fall to the first assault. Hang ups - as at Guam - are
due to improper TF loading. I was an amphib sailor after all - on the last APA ever built for USN.
A unit turned up on the Western RR in Malaya - a small one - so there is a line in Central
Malaya to buy some time. We are hitting both elements of it with bombers - and it may
not last long enough to actually assault it. Most bombers now are flying from bases in
Malaya itself. Similarly, on Luzon, the entire air division is on the island, making strikes
very efficient. But some auxiliary aircraft are operating out of Bataan - so we will see
what we can do about that?
More operations are staging up.
The Russians also are out of hand - attacking an IJA unit with 14 casualties!!!

I'm very interested by what I'm seeing of this mod - you seem to be very good at finding ways to represent things not available in stock.
On that note, have you been able to model fleet tugs? That seems to be the one ship type whose primary function isn't represented.
Also, does your enhanced land OrBat include USN UDTs?
While I have tugs in the game, it is in "combinations" with barges. Unless I tie them to their tow, they won't "stay together" as it were.
It is, however, represented abstractly - ships that cannot move STILL MOVE - slowly - one hex per day. That is the tugs at work!
UDTs are too small to represent per se. But now that you ask, I have figured out a way to do them! They would be special squads landed in tiny
platoon size packages. I can do that. Even a sub can carry them.
EDIT: See below. I found UDT teams were bigger than expected (96 men) and easily modeled in a form perfect to embark on an APD.
It is already in a microupdate for new game starts. What I need is a Japanese tester so I can test my (many) allied devices and new units.

The Mohe (or Malgal, Mogher) were a Tungusic people in ancient Manchuria. They are sometimes considered the ancestors of the Jurchens, modern-day Manchus and other Tungusic peoples. According to some records, they originally dwelt near the Liao River and later migrated southward. They were involved in the ancient history of Korea: The records of the southern Korean Kingdoms of Baekje and Silla during the 1st century and 2nd century AD include numerous battles against the Mohe. Later they became subject to the northern Korean kingdom of Goguryeo and its successor state, Balhae.
The Mohe were divided into various tribes, the most powerful of which were the Sumo Mohe.[citation needed] The Sumo Mohe were eventually conquered by the Goguryeo, and some other Mohe tribes by Sui Dynasty China. Many Mohe moved back toward their northern homeland in this period. The "Mohe" section of the "Beidi Zhuan" (北狄傳, Communications of the Northern "Di" Barbarians) of the "Jiu Tang Shu" (舊唐書, Old Book of Tang) states: "Their country is all (or "roughly") composed of some tens of 'bu' (roughly "tribes," but also just generally meaning "divisions"), each having a chief, some of whom are attached to the Goguryeo, and some of whom serve as common people (i.e., vassals) to the Tujue."
The Mohe also participated in the kingdom of Balhae, 698-926. The founder of Balhae, Dae Joyeong was possibly a former Goguryeo general of Sumo Mohe stock, although the Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms (Samguk Yusa) written by Koreans several hundred years later states that he was of Goguryeo stock.[1] After the fall of Balhae, few historical traces of the Mohe can be found, though they are considered to be the main ethnic group that became the Jurchen.
The name of the Mohe also appears as "Maka" in "Shin-Maka" (Japanese 新靺鞨, しんまか) or "New Mohe," the name of a dance and the musical piece that accompanies it, which was introduced to the Japanese court during the Nara Period or around the beginning of the Heian Period from the Balhae Kingdom. In modern Japanese historical texts, the name of the Mohe is annotated with the "kana" reading Makkatsu (まっかつ), which is probably a reading pronunciation based on the standard Sino-Japanese readings of the Chinese characters used to transcribe the ethnonym of the Mohe.
The ethnonym of the Mohe bears a notable resemblance to that of the later historically attested *Motgit (in Middle Chinese. Chinese characters: 勿吉, pinyin: Mòjí, Korean: 물길 [Mulgil], Japanese: もつきつ [Motsukitsu]), as well as to that of the medieval Merkits, who opposed the rise of the Mongols led by Genghis Khan.
One of the tribes of the Mohe, the Heishui Mohe, eventually became the ancestors of the Jurchens, from whom the Manchu originated.[2]

We had air strikes on our main front today - entirely by the Red Air Force. One ground unit took 14 casualties.
This is a GRAVE violation - not a technical one - of both sovereignty and operational security. Air strikes on the
main front imply an offensive was intended to be unleashed - and someone got the date mixed up. Is THIS
what you mean by "local commander's discretion?" Or are your units out of control? If you let this go on,
I predict more than being relieved of command. Comrad Stalin will not approve of starting a war on two fronts!
I expect a prompt reply or I will order execution of retaliatory operations tomorrow: needless to day they are
in planning already.
As for the Mohe, they serve in both Imperial Japanese and Imperial Manchu forces. Hmmm - that reminds me - there is
a special unit made of ethnic Russians, and tribes like this one, led by a Russian major general somewhere in my command -
they are experts in this sort of thing. Better have the General come and report.

I made many technical changes
for cosmetic, historical or technical reasons
Most of this will update into existing games - changes in type of vessel
and type of weapon are instant updates
but some things won't
names won't change
new vessels won't add (two new Manchurian patrol craft, 24 new US Army
Corps of Engineers "tank lighters" = USN LCMs)
Booms were redefined so they will permit loading troops to make em tougher in a fight - meaning "river booms" or blockade vessels
Ferries were redefines so they can be amphibs - they are superb amphibs
certain patrol craft redefined so they are more consistent with other craft
SECOND - I added the Asano Unit (or Asano Brigade) - of the IJA Nakano School in conception - this is a Manchurian unit of Russians - complete with a cossock commander - two companies of infantry, a recon element, a demolition engineer element, a machine gun company and a mortar company
The MG company is 4 MMG by our standards, and the mortar company 8 8cm mortars - better than the usual 7cm in Manchukuo service - there are 4 squads of cavalry, 4 of demolition engineers. It is based near where the Sungari River meets the Amur - at the SE tip of Manchuria.
THIRD - I added USN UDTs - which surprisingly come in teams of 96 men -
so I created a new combat engineer squad (called of course UDT Team) -
of only 6 (vice the usual 12 men) - which when combined with a 10 man support squad = 16 men - and you get 6 per UDT TEAM

First - this update sets up the revised ship art
In the process of investigating about 60 new classes
starting with the Imperial Manchukuo Navy - but including
many new minor Axis and Allied vessels related to riverine
and coastal operations
I made many technical changes
for cosmetic, historical or technical reasons
Most of this will update into existing games - changes in type of vessel
and type of weapon are instant updates
but some things won't
names won't change
new vessels won't add (two new Manchurian patrol craft, 24 new US Army
Corps of Engineers "tank lighters" = USN LCMs)
Booms were redefined so they will permit loading troops to make em tougher in a fight - meaning "river booms" or blockade vessels
Ferries were redefines so they can be amphibs - they are superb amphibs
certain patrol craft redefined so they are more consistent with other craft
SECOND - I added the Asano Unit (or Asano Brigade) - of the IJA Nakano School in conception - this is a Manchurian unit of Russians - complete with a cossock commander - two companies of infantry, a recon element, a demolition engineer element, a machine gun company and a mortar company

No. I decided a UDT unit is an amphib assault unit. So I made its functional heart be assault engineers. It will contribute to an amphib assault. Since we operate on a 24 hour land turn scale, you cannot tell they go in first. The unit is perfect to go in on an APD which was the preferred delivery vessel. But it does not clear mines at sea - it messes up the defenses ashore - including fortifications. These units will not appear in this test game, unfortunately, but will appear in the next test. They also do not appear early in the game, unfortunately. There were a lot of lessons learned before the concept was defined - and the first units went to ETO on top of that.

General war???!!! The Russians once again directed air strikes at a Japanese target, this time not right on the border, but a major concentration and HQ - the biggest one of all! The Japanese - one is tempted to say "and the sky would fall" returned yesterday's attack on a border unit with, what? a whole air division? (not quite, just what was in range). Russian ground casualties were on the order of a hundred times the 14 ground casualties in yesterdays raid on IJA a few hexes away. Methinks the problem of "not being able to get the attention of HQ in Moscow" may be over! Technically, both sides fighters had coordination problems with bombers, so both sides had bombers go in unescorted. And the oldest and "worst" of Russian biplanes is remarkable in firepower (modified from its original 2 rifle caliber MG to include better MG, cannon and rockets!) - to the point one is tempted to PREFER them to modern fighters!
Submarines on both sides had a field day, but the only sinking reported outright were Japanese. On the other hand, Prince of Wales took a fish (off Batavia). And the Allies have a very big minefield at Merak/Serang - three hits on an unfortunate I boat which won't be going home again. Kwajalein is at war again - this time with a submarine that seems to make some of its torpedoes work. Unexpected troop concentration held Sinkawang. But Rabaul fell - to what turned out to be overkill - on the first assault by a division - after two BB groups bombardments and air support - with only a company listed in defense. What about that static base force? With 6 inch guns that never scored? Wiped out in bombardment I guess.

Submarines on both sides had a field day, but the only sinking reported outright were Japanese. On the other hand, Prince of Wales took a fish (off Batavia). And the Allies have a very big minefield at Merak/Serang - three hits on an unfortunate I boat which won't be going home again. Kwajalein is at war again - this time with a submarine that seems to make some of its torpedoes work. Unexpected troop concentration held Sinkawang. But Rabaul fell - to what turned out to be overkill - on the first assault by a division - after two BB groups bombardments and air support - with only a company listed in defense. What about that static base force? With 6 inch guns that never scored? Wiped out in bombardment I guess.

First, I didn't like having to write letters of condolence to 14 families yesterday, victims of dastardly air attack by Soviet Frontal Aviation.
Second, I ordered that you be given the opportunity to write "at least ten times" that many letters today, and my frustrated
airmen, held at bay by my wise forbearance, gave me rather more than I asked for.
Third, in advance, my condolences to you, for yourself, when you try to explain why there is a general air war on the main sector
of our front to Comrad Stalin. He will, no doubt be very polite, and assure you that you are still in his good graces. But I don't
expect you to survive the week.
Fourth, I have issued orders to ground units on three fronts to demonstrate how vulnerable your long front really is? There is
(barely) still time to recall them before they violate recognized (and disputed) boundaries. But not very much time. If you have
any intention of seriously negotiating, and sparing us both the problem of war on a front our respective HQ will not like, NOW
is the time to communicate seriously. I have notified Tokyo that 100% of Kwangtung Army is required in theater, that such units
as had moved toward exit points are no longer available for operations out of area, and that reinforcements may be requested
tomorrow - if you have not indicated a more reasonable policy is forthcoming. I remain a professional soldier, and I have already
issued stand down orders - which I will issue if you give me the opportunity. Your choice. See three above. If it is an exaggeration
of how much hot water you are in today, surely it won't be within the next few days, if you continue to prefer ordering attacks to
preventing open war.

Unfortunately for the Japanese, US submarines are still fitted with the torpedoes as in stock and
most mods: they will become MUCH worse when they don't suffer an 80% dud rate! Late war
subs - this also from stock to its credit - often mount multiple five inch guns as well. Then there is
the matter these early fleet boats have no radar: the only radar raider on the board is a German
one - with Seatakt - and it did beat up one ship off SW AUS already. When subs get radar,
IF you set em to react one hex as permitted, they will become MORE effective!
The real problem the Japanese have is weak ASW. It does get better - with almost every small
and some large vessels mounting AS weapons - with crude ahead throwing weapons - and even with
slightly improved DC. But not enough to handle the tide that is going to come. Air ASW is a big
unknown under test here: instant messages imply it IS working - and Japan will eventually field
the first specialized ASW planes on the planet (unfortunately not well designed, too slow and vulnerable
with too little AS ordnance). The Allies, instead of dedicated planes, get ASW armed bombers and
patrol planes - in fact techincally the first is availble right now (see the B-34 Lexington, which isn't in
any unit, but exists as an upgrade for bomber units, an early USAAF ASW plane before USAAF decided
to get out of that business). The later ones, including British and AUS types, may be very effective,
with smart DC and acoustic ASW torpedoes (which are simply bombs with high accuracy values because only
bombs work as air AS devices in code; however the statistics are carefully done and the numbers are
relatively high for Allied AS planes compared to Japanese ones.

And yes, those nasty jap units in Manchuko get what they deserve.
This guy really needs to be replaced. This is NOT how to manage a "quiet front"
in the context of a non-aggression treaty honored by both sides IRL until AFTER it
expired!

Can somebody explain to me how, under "extreme overcast conditions" no less, the report comes in
with a count of planes, by type??????????? Does code assume no plane is stuck below?????
